We moved 3 months ago to a really primo house a real homely home and have been so happy , it is through a real estate so we thought we would be quite safe , well got a letter last week to say the owner was taking the property back and that she still wanted to keep us as tenants, she rang me today and she is going to sell the house so looks like we will have to move again! So sick of moving the joys of renting! The thing I am so annoyed about was she was not even going to tell me I had to ask her if she was selling, then she asked me if we wanted to buy it , like yeah right unfortunately we are not in a position to be able to do this, and she finally admitted to going to put it on the market. So don't need this my poor dh also got laid of his job a month ago and he got another one straight away but the pay is heaps less than what he was on so things are just sucky at the mo!

Ah Nic that sucks, that happened to us, our landlord had been overseas, came back on holiday the week after i miscarried and went thru the house and told us we probably had till march next year when they were coming back into the country. Then the week i had the D&C our hot water cylinder broke, took a week to get it fixed cos by then he had gone back overseas, and while the estate company was busy trying to organise it he was ringing getting other people to do quotes too. Dammit we just wanted hot water. the day it finally got fixed the estate agent rung us and told us the owners were putting the house on the market. so it was mad rush for us to find a house, not to mention putting up with a couple of open homes too! we had to move into this house, which i am so glad we did but are only just getting back to right with paying off the money we borrowed to get into it. and to top it off, after 3 weeks on the market, the owner decided that well, it should have sold.. so took it off the market and decided to rent it out again!!!! it was filled the week after we moved out! ARGH i was so angry... but more fool them, the place was damp and scoady when you looked closely, so now we pay $20 a week more for a new townhouse that's as warm as heck (wake up at night roasting). so really even though we were angry as hell, it was for the best.

good luck for finding a house, there are some good ones out there, keep searching and you'll find the right one, we missed out on another one we looked at and were a bit gutted but it hadn't felt right anyway, we were just aware that we had to move so were going to settle for it.. so along came this one and here we are....

you'll get there, hope it's not too stressful for you.

Thanks heaps for the hugs, was so ready to burst into tears this arvo, we can sort of take our time we have 3 weeks till she takes it back from the real estate but I just don't want to be in it when it is on the market having to get out for open homes etc!! It is so expensive to move house all the time and we so would not have moved in here if we knew this was gonna happen but we didn't and my dh does not cope well with moving so that puts extra pressure on us etc !!! arrrgghhh takes a deep breath.... I know it will be fine, and we will look very carefully this time!

Aw Nic that's hard. If you start packing up the stuff you don't use much now, it won't be as big a job later on and that may help your DH? With him dropping income maybe now is a good time to see if you can go for something a little cheaper? (I dunno what you live in at the moment but it's worth considering.)

Man that does suck, but I thought that once the house was sold you were given 6 weeks to leave the place. That is what happened to us when we brought our place. Once we had signed the papers the tennents in our house were given 6 weeks notice to leave, I thought it was common practice. But as you said you don't want to be there for the open homes so maybe getting out of the asap would be good. I would love to have a family live in the house next door to me. I'm sick of Saturday nights and hearing all sorts of wonderful (NOT ) things going on over there.

Best of luck finding something soon.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Thanks, I always pack early when we move so that is not a problem, And we are hoping to get something cheaper but most rentals are around 250-270 or more for anything way decent... I am not panicking, and yes we will get six weeks notice if it does sell but I don't fancy being in it while it is on the market, and the slightly evil side of me wants to leave them in the crap with an empty house to sell!!!! Oh I am naughty!!!

Nic, maybe also look for a contract on the next house you move to whcih states a mimimum term of occupancy - like a year. That way even if they do sell they either have to negotiate with you to leave (so would stump up moving charges etc) or they have to sell it as tenanted. Would just give you a little more permanancy.

Oh sucky! I thought there was something in most tenancy agreements about how much notice they had to give you?
When we were looking at houses we went to one open home where tenants in there were home - watching tv, cooking in kitchen and when real estate agent showed us into a bedroom there was even someone asleep!!
Maybe you could negotiate drop in rent (if you do end up being there while on market) or help towards moving costs?

Hehe. Do it Nic! One of my good friends did that purely out of spote! He'd rented the house for about 5 years, and the Landlord was always really bad about getting anything done. The roof was leaking so bad that water was running down the walls at one point! (He'd mentioned it to the Landlord first when he notices a suspicious patch of mildew on the ceiling, and dampness on the roof). When he moved out, there was actually a hole in the ceiling!

Anyway, the Landlord sent him a letter saying that the family were moving back into the house, and gave him 60 days notice to get out (more I think than legally required, but still), so he just fired them a letter back saying, no worries! I'll be out in 2! Hehe. The place stood empty for aaaagess!!!

I am sorry though that you have the stress at the moment - it never rains, but it pours eh?? Not good at ALL.

Thanks ginger you always have nice things to say to everyone, not gonna stress just get on with it , and gonna def move out before she has a chance to get things moving we are under the real estate till the 11th July so that is 21/2 weeks away still .

Faraway if we are still here might talk about reducing the rent will help out not sure if she will go for it or not first time I met her after we moved in she seemed a bit of a biarch!! She even came around a couple of weeks ago and ripped heaps of plants out of the garden to put at her brand new house, she did ring first I could hardly say no.

Miss a fixed term can be a good idea too might look into that see how we go.

Thanks guys there is always lots of nice positive advice given on here, better than a few of the other forums I sometimes frequent
