Topic: solids maybe??? Posted: 13 January 2008 at 10:28pm |
My big budha (8kg) is now having 5 240ml bottles a day and has started waking at night has been sleeping though since she was 6 weeks old. Do you guys think she might need something more? She is so little (in age). Have tired to give her water just in case it was the heat but will not have a bar of it.

Could just be that she is having the 3 month growth spurt a bit later, I would hold off at least until 4 months and until she is showing other signs for starting solids, like watching you eat etc. Maybe try introducing a 6th bottle 5X 240ml probably isn't that much for her weight, Spencer only weighs about 7kg and he has 5 x 210ml plus 3 large solid feeds.

I would hold out a little bit longer till she was 4 months old till the solids. Maybe an extra bottle might help.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Awww from ticker pics she looks so much like Madison just with dark hair, smae smile and everything.
As for the solids I would at least try adn hold her out till 4mths. There is a formula for hungry babies I think that you could give her till then I just up her milk intake if she is hungry. Def sounds like the 3mth growth spurt

Remember that sleeping through at 3 months is NOT normal so she could be waking for som many reasons other than hunger.
Most people who intro solids early due to thinking their babies are hungry due to waking do not find it helps with the sleep at all.
It could be time for more day time awake time, it could be something in her room annoying her now she is more aware, it could be that she is finding it hard to self soothe back to sleep (all babies wake a number of times during the night, sleeping through just means they can get themselves back to sleep).
Aside from things like allergies, reactions, needing to be physically ready for solids, they are a total PITA in terms of having yet more stuff to lug round and feeding them solids is so much more annoying than milk!

As the others have said it could be the 3 month growth spurt. Try giving another feed during the day. I started Madison on solids about two weeks ago as she was waking after an hour and then drinking an extra 100mls so all up 360mls and was grabbing at our food etc. Good luck, i know its so confusing.

I'd hold off on the solids too for another 10 days or so. Could be a growth spurt and may pass in the next few days

I agree with the others hold off for now - I would try adding in another bottle - you could even try reducing the amount slightly and increasing the number of feeds so that you were feeding more often throughout the day.
