Ok as I said, sorry but this might be to much info than anyone is willing to give but I dont feel like I can ring my midwife. With Kobe my waters had been leaking for a while and I didnt realise and Im worried it may be happening again otherwise Im having a huge amount of discharge. How much is normal discharge at this stage and how do I know if its normal or actually my waters leaking?

How much is it quantity wise and what's the consistency like? Nothing would phase me as I'm sure you know by now, so describe away !

Edited to add: Put a pad on to catch some, and although I haven't had first hand experience, part of the distinction between discharge and your actual waters breaking is the smell.

i found the waters smelled a bit pickled, like vinegar. but i agree, put on a pad to catch some of it and get your midwife to check just to be safe. its a simple test, and i'm sure your midwife won't mind coming to check. i have a lot of discharge at the moment too and the reason i know it is discharge is because of the consistency.

Well it depends on how you define different smells I guess, but I did hear once or twice that it smells a lot like ejaculate...

I agree you should get it checked, even if just for your own peace of mind. I remember having a lot of discherge towards the end with Maya, so much that my midwife did check to see if it was amniotic fluid, so it is probably completely normal.

Wow I I was just thinking of writting the same post as I have noticed a rather large amount of discharge I am pretty sure it dischardge cause of the consistency as I assume if it was water it would be more like wee. Anyway thnakyou for reading my mind. I hope is all is well oh and deffently get it checked specially if it happened with your first.

Im still to nervous to ring my midwife, she is rather matter of fact and tends to brush things off and makes me feel silly ringing her. When they found I was leaking last time it was during an internal, is that the only way they can tell if its amniotic fluid or is there an easier way? I have been feeling really crampy off and on the last couple of days and was having regular pains all last night but they seem to have stopped. I will ring her tomorrow if I still feel like this though and see what she says. Maybe Im just paranoid becuase i didnt pick it up last time, thanks for all the advice

I found out I was leaking amniotic fluid this week, so this is something I kinda know about at the moment.

I woke up to a slight 'gushing'. I put on a pad. The only way I knew it was fluid as opposed to discharge was because of the smell, I remember the smell from when my waters broke with Quinn. Long story short, ended up in the hospital but they think the 'leak' has sealed itself.

So I would say the thing to do is wear a pad, and then (as gross as this sounds) smell it. If it smells like amniotic fluid or just unfamiliar then call midwife. Keep the pad cause she will want to see it and any others that you use, just pop them in a plastic bag. The other thing to keep an eye on is your temperature, if you are leaking there is a risk of infection. Let your midwife know if your temperature is up. And otehr than that, take is really easy, lie down as much as possible!

Hope it is ok!!
Anna

no I havent cos Im to chicken but I will definately ring her tomorrow cos Im still really achey which is what i was like with Kobe but I know she will just say to keep an eye on it, same as always. If it is amniotic then Im guessing it will be like last time where Im admitted to hospital and not allowed to leave which is another reason I dont want to ring the midwife! although in saying that Anna got to leave so maybe I would too, not sure but dont want to leave Kobe!

I didn't want to leave Quinn either... It could be a wee bit different than me tho cause I am only halfway thru so if the leaking continues there is not much that can be done but youare closer than me so they can look after you. It could be just a small tear which could heal itself but the biggy is to keep an eye on your temp in case of infection!! But if it is a leak then do not worry too much, you can be looked after and you are getting close to baby day now!

I would ring, just because it had happened with Kobe. You hav a right to be anxious just for that alone. And the midwife should be checking on that particular problem becuase of what happned last time.

Good luck Robyn - let us know what they say. After reading your post I think I might have a similar thing going on (or weak bladder) but not too sure myself, went to see midwife for normal appointment yesterday and she said all is as it should be, so maybe mine is just discharge too. *waffle waffle*

aargh just did this big post and got timed out!!! Well to make a long story short spoke to midwife yesterday and today, she thinks things might be brewing but because I am basically 35 weeks they wouldnt stop the labour so might aswell just wait. She did offer to see me and do an internal but this could start something if its close so didnt want to risk that, or get me into hospital and hook me up to machines for a little bit but I didnt want that because I had Kobe today and no one that could look after him so we are just going to wait and see. I did a pee test today and dont have an infection and she said that should have picked up something if I was leaking which it didnt. So basically I am just going to sit back and wait for now, she said no baths incase I am leaking a little and no sex (no problem there) and I will see her friday. Oh and she said that in her opinion a leak they would worry about would be if you are soaking a pad or it feels like its trickling down your leg. Thanks for the support ladies.
