Topic: spontaneous orgasms - TMI Posted: 11 January 2010 at 12:56pm |
Hi,
I had a Missed Miscarriage (21st Dec) and then D&C on the 22nd of Dec.
From about 6 weeks up untill my baby died (at 11.5 weeks) I was having Sponataneous orgasms in my sleep (1 or 2 every night) and I would wake up in pain for 3 - 10 minutes... as the weeks went on the contractions got more intense / violent . About the same time I started having brown spotting untill my baby died also.
I spoke to my doctor, my midwife and the Doctor at the hospital and none of them seemed to have even heard of it.
I'm wondering if this caused the miscarriage or it was my bodies way of ending/removing the pregnacy because something was wrong.
Has anyone experienced this? or even heard of it?

I woke up having orgasms when pg during my 1st trimester but I was having very raunchy dreams.
I didnt have them with my first which ended in mc, and my they didnt affect my little boy..... I never told my mw about them... bit to embarrassing at the time tbh.
Im so sorry for your loss.

So sorry.
I've had a LOT of dream orgasms with this pregnancy. Some of them sex dreams but some unrelated (one was about shoes and and another about parking the car!) although I don't remember it particularly with the 2 I lost. But I definitely haven't had any pain at all. I can't imagine that the orgasms themselves would have caused any problems and could have just been your response to the hormones, but maybe they triggered the cramps of the miscarriage?

Thank Melnel and Thesaff
I guess it could have been triggering the cramps of the Miscarriage.. although it was happening for 5.5weeks before the baby died and I had seen the heartbeat in that time.
I'm just so worried because I want to try again and I'm terrified it will happen again.. I feel strongly that it had something to do with the miscarriage, either causing it or trying to end the pregnancy because of a problem.
It would be great to find out what causes sponataneous orgasms or if there is something that would stop them.. calm down my body or something?
It just so frustrating that the doctors are no help.

I have orgasms in my sleep, and I think I have had them since I MC. I dont really remember having them with my first pregnancy but am having them at least once a week these days... I also cant remember if they started before I was PG or not, so Im prob not much help.
They say that orgasms are safe during pregnancy, so I wouldnt think it would be related to your MC, but I dont know sorry hun.
Maybe your body was cramping and your subconcious turned it into orgasms? (Just guessing, throwing an idea around)
Are you still getting them now?
I havnt mentioned mine to my MW, didnt really see the point? I dont have overly sexy dreams and half the time I cant remember what I was dreaming about anyway...
So sorry about your loss hun.

Hi Emmi,
Yes, I had thought about that too.. that my subconscious might have been turning the cramps into orgasms. But I didn't have cramps any other time, also the pain didn't really start untill the orgasm had finished.. and like I said the baby was growing and had a heartbeat for another 5 and a half weeks after they started.. I'm not sure if miscarriage cramps would start that soon before the baby died?
I didn't have anymore after the baby died and none since.
I mentioned them to the midwife and doctors because they were causing such bad cramps and because they were so violent... But they couldn't offer any advice.
I'm not sure where to go from here.

Hmmm, sorry I cant help either!! I really have any idea of what you could do from here...
I guess I would put it down to coincidence and when you get PG again have some extra monitoring if you start spontaneous orgasming again, Im not to sure what else you could do?

On recall I did have one case of bad cramps post orgasm with my first bubba and didnt have sex again cos it freaked me out.
That said the fact that you carried for a further 5 weeks says a lot. Its so much easier to try find something to blame rather than it just happened.... we all want to know why.
To be honest I dont believe the orgasms caused your mc, I would say the cramps occured due to there being something wrong....
I know how scarey the thought of losing again is, but I dont think you need to be concerned about having orgasms hun....
I hope you a sticky wee bean very soon.

Thanks Melnel,
I think you're right, I need to put it down to Mother natures way! If it happens again, then I can worry.
I hope you a sticky bub soon too!

Hi Jacinderella I know exactly what you mean!! I was excited to read your post. I had the exact same thing, sudden orgasm while dreaming (I think during a sex dream) and immediately woken up by an intense cramp lasting up to 10 minutes. this only happened to me a couple of times in the first few weeks of pregnancy then i didn't experience it again.
Sadly I miscarried on Monday and am still bleeding
i was 7.5 weeks and started spotting at the weekend. I don't know if it happened earlier because I only went for a first scan on Monday when I had told my MW what was happening. And everything started to come out in the radiographer's surgery toilet. horrible experience.
It's good to be able to talk to you all who have been through similar things. I've only just started joining the boards.
I joined an MTB board and just had to take myself out of it. but next time wont be so quick to do that just in case

Hi Sagapo,
I'm so sorry for your loss!
These forums are great! It is great to be able to talk to others that have been through it!
The only thing I have been able to find out about this so far, and this is only through my own research... That the orgasms are sometimes caused because of high testosterone. I'm not sure if mine was high at the time or not, so I'm not sure if thats much help.

First of all sorry for your loss. Nothing anyone can say can help but hugs anyway.
A thought popped into my head so thought I would share it - it may or may not be relevant. I know I like to be able to explain things that happen to me. It is sort of comforting so I can understand your need for info.
Some people who are high risk or had previous miscarriages are sometimes advised not to have sex in the first trimester. You may have had an issue with this bub that you wouldn't be aware of and the orgasms didn't help out. A miscarriage may or may not have occured without them but they may not have helped the situation IYGWIM. Maybe you could ask your midwife if there is some thing you can do to avoid it next time. I really don't know of anything but it would at least put your mind at ease a bit. Also each pregnancy is different so you may not experience them next time.
Good luck and I hope you have your little bubs very soon.
