Topic: starting to feel in control again Posted: 27 April 2006 at 5:37pm |
well Rhiannon is now 16days old, and feeding and sleeping well, i had a midwifes visit today, and woohoo baby girl is past her birth weight, and my milk is flowing really well.
my csection is healing well, and im startin to feel really good.
the only thing that is really going wrong is that after i feed her, my nipples go white and really hurt, and apparently that is because the circulation is be cut from my nipples and it should go by the time Rhiannon is 4months old. i have to admit i wasnt happy to hear that as at times it is really painful bringing tears to my eyes but as it doesnt happen all the time i dont need to have any meds for it, and as im happy to put up with it so Rhiannon can breast feed, my midwife is happy with how things are.
Kent is back at work next week so i suppose that will be the telling time, as at the moment i can just hand her onto him when i need a little break....fingers crossed i will be okay.
I am loving being a mummy but i am still so overwhelmed with it all. im sure it gets easier and easier

You'll probably find your nipples get better much faster than four mths too - mine were really bad with Maya till about 4-5 weeks, then they settled as her feeding settled.

Good to hear things are going well for you.
I second what Lu (james) said - put baby somewhere safe, then do something for you! I would put my baby into bed, then make myself a hot drink and get a snack of some sort. By the time it was all ready, I was ready to pick my baby up again, and could happily hold them while I had my snack. Pushchairs are really good for "mummy time out" too!

Glad to hear things are gettin better for you slowly, def agree with everyone that it doesnt get easier it just gets different.
But in sayin that the rewards seem to get more recognisable, like they can hug and kiss you and tell you they love you, such a neat feelin

b/f does get better my nipples stopped hurting a few weeks ago and i love b/f now. If it gets where its just so painful take a couple of panadol it makes it bearable. Glad to hear ur bubs is sleeping better sounds like she is sleeping better than Jack.

things are going well at the moment apart from the odd moment where i just want to go back to some semblance of normality.
Kent goes back to work tomorrow and i am house bound for at least 2 wks before i can drive again, so hopefully i wont go too batty.
I am not looking forward to tomorrow as i know its only me at home and i cant just hand her to hubby when i need a break. but hey thats life.
Breastfeeding is a lot easier now that she isnt taking so long to feed, but she must be going through a growth spurt as she has feed every 2 hours since yesterday morning. actually she was awake from 9am - about 3pm this afternoon with 3 feeds in that time, and its almost 5.30pm now and shes on the verge of waking again. so im hoping she will sleep well tonight.
Still i am loving being a mum and i am just enjoying her being this tiny as i know it wont last long and i know i will look back and wonder where it has gone.

once you get into that routine Kaz, it becomes a lot easier. I tried to make sure I took a shower and got dressedn everyday - so tempting to stay in PJS!!!! And even tired to put on some lippy or something. with jake, and even now, we go for a walk nearly everyday - just to get out of the house - even just to the dairy adn get the newspaper.

well Rhiannon was awake at 6am wanting a feed, so i feed her, put her back down, climbed into bed for 10mins to have a cuddle with hubby, got up at 6.40am to have a shower, had b/fast at 7am and then dozed on the couch until 9am, when bubs awoke again, so changed and feed she is now quiet, almost asleep.
we are going to go for a short walk this afternoon if the weather holds out.

I had the same thing with Zaara and my nipples would bleed too...it was sooo sore. Every time I feed her I was in tears.....I bought cream and that was sooooo good. You can buy them from Baby factory. you could try nipple shield to, however my little one did not like that at all....so that was a waste of money. But might work for you.
Yay for your bub gaining weight and doing well. Well done mum!!!

glad to hear things are going well! did you get out for your walk today?
i had sore nipples too for the first few weeks, the best cream i had was in a very small, purple tube but i can't remember what it was called. also, try to give them lots of sunshine, hard i know!
