Topic: Stopping Vitex once Pregnant... When/How? Posted: 25 September 2011 at 9:45am |
I started taken vitex capsules this last cycle which worked very well as I am now 5 weeks pg...
My question, when did you stop taking the vitex once you were pg and how did you stop it (ie, cold turkey or try and wean off it?) and did you notice anything in the process??
TIA

You should stop at once. It is not recommended when you are pregnant.

Thanks very much guys!!
Stopped it cold turkey, been stopped for 3 days and no bleeding so hopefully everything is ok, time will tell I supose if baby continues to grow.
I would definately use it again RJ, my cycles went from usually around 50-60days (but anywhere from 14-770days) and ovulation and LPs all over the show to a normal 32day cycle and Pg!!!

Just for future reference for anyone who may be taking vitex while TTC. You can continue to take it once you get your BFP for the whole first trimester, and infact some homeopaths/naturopaths suggest you don't stop it straight away, as if your body needed it to help you conceive, then it likely "may" need it to help maintain the lining of your uterus/and pregnancy for the first trimester.
However, if you had normal cycles with a normal length luteal phase (10-16 days) then chances are stopping it early in pregnancy won't cause any issues.
You can also take it while breastfeeding. I started taking Vitex when my DD was breastfeeding, she was 14 months old at the time. I wouldn't take it while you're breastfeeding a young baby, as it can impact on your supply, but if your milk is well established, and baby is on solids, you can take it.
There's a lot of misinformation about Vitex, and the main reason it's often not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding is because it's not been clinically tested. There are reports that taking it in later stages of pregnancy can pose risks, but not in the early stages.
