Okay, one of my cats is doing some really bizzare crap and im wondering if any of you may have seen the same or know about it.

Both cats in my house had kittens.
One abandoned her 4 so my cat George took over - raising the 8 kittens. Now, the other cat, Bella, was fixed last week and all of a sudden has become all motherly and wanting to feed the kitties (this has happened in the last half hour) she's been laying there trying to feed, cleaning the kittens etc right next to George who doesnt seem to give a crap. My question is - is this right? Would she have suddenly relised that her babies are hers? I tried ringing the vet but they're closed!

Gosh, I don't know. That is very strange behaviour. Poor kitty she is obviously very confused. I guess there is no harm in it though, its just a bit sad.

We had EXACTLY the same thing happen with our cats when I was a younger. We had 2 female (sister) cats who had kittens at the same time. One was a terrible mother and so the other one raised the kittens... Also when the terrible mother got fixed her personality changed and she was a lot more loving. I guess it can't be an uncommon situation?

It's her adjusting to the hormones changing. Sometimes it can take up to a few months for them to calm. I wouldn't worry but have a chat to your vet about it. How long was she at the vets for? Perhaps the separation had an effect? As long as she is not trying to injure the kittens, I would just let her go for it.

Permanent personality changes are rare but cats often seem calmer afterwards. My cat has turned into a sack of potatoes.

It's great that you've done the right thing and had her spayed though.
