I have a lil dilema..

I've been accepted into the teaching degree I wanted, when I applied it was for full time study but then I got preggers...

But first. I have already done 2 of the papers for the degree. So esstentially my first year only has 1 semester 1 paper, 1 semester 2 paper and a bunch of double semester papers..
so after talking it over with the course organiser I have a couple of options..

1. Do nothing this year and start out next year and do all the above papers

2. Enrol and do the "part time" option of the degree which would mean I would have to do the 1 semester 1 paper and the 1 semester 2 papers and do all the double semester papers next year.

I'm due in August. I'm not sure if I'd be digging myself a big hole in doing a paper 2nd semester or not. Especially since the 2nd semester paper is a Maori one (and no offence to anyone) but it's the paper I'm dreading doing the most out of all of them - it's not something that interests me in the slightest.

I did ask if it were possible to just do the semester 1 paper and nothing semester 2 but she didn't really like that suggestion. They are a bit anal about either following the full time or part time options to the letter and are already making an "allowance" for me as they wanted me to be an internal student since I live in Palmy but I faught to be extramural.

Which would you do and why?

ETA: I thought I should add that last semester with the 2 papers I did I did with Daniel at home full time and got a B and B+ which wasn't too bad considering I haven't studied in years lol. My mumma has offered to look after Daniel 1 day a week while I'm studying but its the newborn thing that concerns me.

Which teaching degree is it?

I'm doing a postgrad in primary teaching at the Uni of Canterbury and when I had my admission interview she said that the postgrad ones are a lot more intense than the undergrad ones.

I guess the only question I would have is how much work are the papers? If you are doing them extramurally then you don't have to attend classes and if you are due in August and the paper finished in November then it's probably plenty of time to play catch up (Although like you I'm dreading doing the Maori papers - mostly because I'm an Aussie so have absolutely NO prior knowledge whatsoever).

From my experience at uni I would say that doing it part time probably wouldn't be too bad - it sounds like you did ok last semester so I'd say go for the part time option if that's what you really want to do.
TTC#1: Jan 07
Aug 08: Lap found and excised Stage 3 Endo
Nov 08: 2nd lap clear - given OK to TTC after next AF

Snap, kinda! I'm doing my (secondary) teaching diploma extramurally this year. Originally I was going to start mid 2008 but last year they stopped doing a mid year intake and while I was annoyed at the time, in hindsight thank goodness. No way could I have managed to study and look after a newborn at the same time - I struggled to get out of my PJs most days for the first couple of months.

That said, I'm thinking now that I know what I'm doing, I suspect newborn #2 (eventually) will be easier and I'll be better at managing my time then - although I guess you have to be when you've got another preschooler in tow anyway. Ditto you'll know what you're doing this time round too - so you might be able to manage it. One paper isn't much really.

Go you for the other two papers with Daniel at home! You're an inspiration!

i studied (did my teaching diploma) while Taine was a newborn and whie it was hard- he slept heaps and I did it all then.

I studied part time and it was all quite feasible.

Do part time.

Gosh I was worried about being heavily pregnant whilst studying (though it would be on-campus), and you are planning on having a child in the middle of a semester!
I take my hat off to you!

That one Maori paper is really easy to do - I can even help you with that as I have done the same paper last year. It is like the 2 papers you have done you do the same paper but under a different paper number with the teaching degree.

I would see if you can do the 1st year part time (over 2 years) and then do the next 3 years fulltime.

You doing early years or primary (I can't remember which one you went for)??

I guess I'm worried that I'll fall behind and really struggle to make the time back up.

I'm doing Early Years (birth - 8)

I did my undergrad degree when my oldest was a baby and it was full on but I was full time (and younger so didn't mind the all nighters to keep up)...

I've been doing my PhD part time for the last few years - I started just before I found out I was preggers- I have finally resigned myself to the fact it just too much and I've suspended my enrolment for a year. I just really wanna enjoy the time I have at home with my wee girl (think I missed so much with my 12 year old) and I find that I constantly feel guilty about not studying when I should be so it's a constant stress for me... guess you just have to be good at managing your time and I'm not at all

if you are definitly keen to do it i would say go part time. i go back to uni (under-grad) on march 2 which is 2 months beofre baby is due. im only doing 2 papers first semester and 3 papers second. i have also managaed to schedule all my classes between 2 + 4 everyday so baby still has a routine. i could have waited a year but was worried id lose motivation and i have found myself that even being at home with children i still get restless so it is almost like my form of time out where i get to be a grown up. my first degree was mostly extramural and i found it way harder without the support and friendships so see what has worked best for you in the past and weigh it all up to what you feel most comfortable with. good luck :)

I'm lucky in the fact I have a good support base. FIL has taken it upon himself to make sure I do well in my study since he's a professor and teaching is his thing lol

Is it still Kerrie that is the course co-ordinator?? I am sure with your last name she wouldn't want to dick you around. I hope they will let you do the first year part time and then go fulltime once the next bub is a little older.

Nah it's someone else now, they recognised my last name too.. she mentioned it in my interview. I can easily change from part time to full time for the following year it's just deciding what to do this year
