Poor wee Jackson has got a cold and is really stuffed up. His nose isn't blocked, but it is all congested and mucousy at the back.

He can't breath when he drinks, so he is barely feeding, and he is gasping away while he is 'sleeping'. He just sounds miserable.

I have elevated his mattress, have a vaporiser and am using saline drops before his feeds.

Is there ANYTHING else I can do? I am guessing not, but thought I would ask in case someone has a miracle fix....

Hi, you poor thing hugs to you both! My bub has a cold too I got some Karvol capsules - I didn't put it in the cot but on a tissue and I placed it on the floor as it was quite strong.

Oh yeah, got them too....

Colds suck! He's already had it almost a week but it is getting worse. I guess because it is all loosening which just generally makes it harder.

Hopefully we've hit the bottom and will start to climb now!

Hope your bub feels better soon too....

You can definately use the baby balasm on a 6mth old, we brought it just for that reason.
Poor wee Jackson and poor mummy too, colds are no fun. No miracle fix unfortunately just hang on in there, it shouldn't last much longer. We have found it useful in the past to feed babies in the bathroom with the shower going full ball.

Baby Balsam, and Karvol are the best things to use, or a bowel of hot water and vicks under his cot.
With the karvol, we put it on a tissue and stuff it at the head of his cot where he cant find it, but the smell wofts up to him.

Have been trying all the tricks. :o)

He seems a little less congested today, but still doesn't like sucking his bottle. How long normally till appetite returns?

That really varies. If he is very congested he maybe sollowing some of the mucous & that will make him less hungry.

He still has to have solids to ged his meds down right? Any way he will take more? Just to help make up for the loss of milk. Water offered here and there will probably help also just to keep fluids up.
I have said it before but you cannot catch a break...if it isn't one thing it is another.
Our thoughts are with you and best of luck....you are doing all you can short of giving him chicken soup....Oooh try that!!!!
