Swollen eye lids and flaky skin

Dear all

I had my first baby boy a few days ago. From the very beginning his left eye lid was a bit more red than the other, and he kept this particular eyes not so open than the other one. During birth the docs tried to suck the baby out but then I had to do a c section. Now the lid has swollen a bit...see photo. Also his hands have flaky skin...in photo too

What can I do pls?? Thanks

Congrats on the birth of your new baby.
Both these things are perfectly normal. Often babies have red swollen patches around their eyes- called "stalk marks" after birth. They should settle in a few days.

They have been in fluid for 9 months and are now suddenly exposed to dry air which makes their skin flake- also perfectly normal. They best thing you can do for their delicate skin is to NOT bath them. DO not try and wipe off any of the white sticky vernix stuff that you might see in their skin folds either- this is all natural stuff to moisterise their skin. Washing baby only makes their skin dry out even more. 1 -2 baths a week is plenty,...the less you wash them the better.

Flaky skin is extremely normal! Try not to pick it off, it should all come off in a few weeks.

Here is a little bit on "Stork Marks" linky
