Hi guys,

Has anyone been to Sydney before?

If so what would you suggest to do there? Is it better to stay in Darling Habour or in the City itself?

We only have 3 days there so really want to make the most out of it so all help is appreciated!

Thanks

Darling Harbour is nice (well it was when I lived there 6 years ago!). Its pretty central, I wouldnt want to stay anywhere else.

Things to do?

Taronga Zoo, if you like zoo's.
Ferry ride over to Manly (my old hood)
Darling Harbour Aquarium is pretty cool.
Centre Point Tower - the view is pretty cool, especially on a clear night!

Cant think of anything else, brain freeze.... will add more as I think of them.

Have fun!

I'd recommend staying at The Crowne Plaza it's about 5mins walk from Darling Harbour.

Catch the ferry from Darling Harbour around to Circular Quay-thats where the Opera House is.

Go to The Rocks - they have markets there, they are fantastic.

Catch the train from the Town Hall stop over to Chatswood, that's where the Westfield mall is and there is a massive Target there (fully recommend doing this!!!)

I liked Luna Park for a look around - not that great BUT I had not long got back from Disneyland so pretty hard to take my opion on it LOL...

the cruise round the harbour was cool and also to Manly. we did a lunch cruise which was nice to sit and eat and rela whilstt taking in the sites

i would definatey recommend the Zoo and also going across to Manly.
There is also the DFO outlet mall out by Homebush which is handy if you are wanting shopping.

I agree with all of the above. And if you like cheap rip off shopping you gotta go to the Paddington Markets at China Town.

Darling Harbour is gorgeous.

The Botanical Gardens are cool, right in the City. Govt House is there - built as a big castle! Then you can take a short walk round the waterfront to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Bondi Beach is worth a look too.

Soooo much to do in Sydney - it's an amazing place to visit!

Here's a pic of Government House:

You will love it !
Totally recommend Chatswood, heaps of great shops (I lived nearby and went most weekends!) You go across the bridge on the train, really pretty harbour views :)

Darling Harbour is really nice, shops, accommodation and bars/restaurants and an easy walk or monorail ride to the city centre, where theres more shops, Town hall etc.
Not far to Circular Quay, where you can get a ferry to Taronga zoo, Manly or around to Darling harbour. Botanical Gardens are there and the Opera House.

I Sydney!

ETA: heaps of public transport, so easy to get around!

Thanks everyone!

Wow Laurie thanks for the pic it looks gorgeous!

Chatswood sounds like me! So Im just a wee bit confused, how do we get there?

I wish we had more days there, doesnt sound like were going to see all these places in 3 days is it?

Where abouts is the Casino? We have got tickes to Priscilla.

Is there any other accommodation in Darling Harbour that anyone would suggest? Just so then I can tell DH that I have really "looked" into it

Crowne Plaza is definitely the closest to Darling Harbour. There were a few others on the other side by Harbour side but I can't remember the names.

The good thing about Crowne Plaza is their breakfasts... OMG! There were fantastic. CP is close to the town hall train station which will take you out to Chatswood, it's close to the Entertainment Centre and the markets.

Just thinking about it there were apartment style places just up from Crowne Plaza.

Hubby and I went there last year for a week. Can't help with accommodation as we stayed with his sister. Things we did were, walked over the harbour bridge and went up into one of the towers that holds it up (I forget it's name!), got the ferry to Taronga Zoo, it was amazing!! (something silly like $37 each but worth it, it's HUGE!), went to the beaches of course, took a bus out to Palm Beach (where Home and Away is partly filmed hehe), umm stuff like that! We didn't go into the Opera House, but my dad and step mum did just recently and said it was interesting.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll love it!

Dal, you get a train to Chatswood from central, Town Hall or Wynyard train stations (all in the city)
Its on the North Shore line, about 20 - 25 mins train ride from the city It will cost about $5 - $6 for a return ticket from memory
Star City Casino is in Darling harbour area, my DH LOVES it there!

Yah this is SO exciting thanks guys!

Crowne Plazza it is!

So if we find the train station and say we want to go to Chatswood they will tell us which train to catch type thing? I am SO useless with buses and trains!

Is the zoo like Steve Irwins zoo type thing? Steve Irwins zoo is AMAZING!

How far away is the Home & Away beach?

Taronga Zoo has lots of different animals, is quite big and has amazing views of the Harbour! Sorry, havent been there for years, but I always loved going!
Palm Beach is a good hour and a bit (at least) on the bus, its the northern beaches, really pretty. You get the bus from Wynyard bus terminal

If you go to the train station, they will help you with which trains and buses to get.

You will have a great time! We are going over Christmas, but will only spend a couple of days in Sydney before heading up to my family home on the Central Coast

Thanks Tammy! Your a star :)

Ok trying to find another hotel now since Crowne Plazza is booked damn it!

How does this one sound?
Novotel Rockford Darling Harbour Sydney
located in the heart of Sydney's vibrant Darling Harbour it is conveniently located at southern end of the CBD and adjacent to the Sydney Entertainment centre. There is pedestrian access to the Sydney Convention and Exhibition centre. Restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and attractions of Darling Harbour, King Street Warf and Cockle Bay are at our door step.

Does that sound its close to the things we want to do?
