Topic: The lowdown on HPT brands     Posted: 12 February 2009 at 1:35pm |

   Hi all

I'm new to the world of baby-making and was wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of the best supermarket/chemist brands of Home Pregnancy Tests.
I'm thinking about testing on Saturday but only have a Clear Blue test at home - from reading other posts I have a feeling these ones aren't so reliable if you are testing reasonably soon after ovulation (I'll be 10-12 DPO)?
Any recommendations would be welcome! Thanks

hey Milly, I just wrote in another thread about this very thing... I reckon First response are pretty good. I got BFP last time at 10DPO with one - the next morning I used a quickcard which still tested as BFN. I'm not too sure about clearblue as never had a BFP with the two I have used but I wasn't preggo so fair enough Discover are suppose to measure from 15ml/u of HcG which is low so you can test earlier...
I too would like to hear what tests others recommend?

I liked internet cheapies this time around and they are a fraction of the price of getting them from the supermarket or chemist

Well... im my expereince (and i did try them all )
Discover - is the best for early detection cos it measures lower levels of HCG. Is more expensive tho and only some chemist stock them. i think they mesure 15ml/u.
First response - I like these cos they are cheapish and can buy in a 3 pack. I got a BFP at 12DPO on these. these mesure 25ml/u i think.
Clearblue - these mesure 50ml/u from my understanding. i didnt like them that much. just cos really.
And lastly, quickcard - i only used when ionce and it was way to early, didnt know what DPO i was so would have only been about 6 lol.
 Havent tried internet cheapies.
Personally my favourite (isnt it weird to have a favourite HPT!) is first response!

Me too!! Loved them. And I tested at 12DPO (3 days before AF was due) and got a BFP on an internet cheapie.

I'm a fan of first response - always buy the multi pack, just in case. Got my BFP just after DP left to find us a house in Oz, boy was that an interesting chat to have over the phone!!

I get a BFP on Discover about 3 days before I get one on First Response strips or Quickcard.
I think next time I would get some off the internet cos then I can just go crazy and poas whenever I like.
But for buying them from the shops, I'd recommend Discover for an early result or FirstResponse for price.

Thanks for the feedback ladies - have just been to the chemist and bought a Discover 2-test pack.

Will test tomorrow morning provided AF doesn't show up between now and then.

Crikey, a BFP on Valentines Day would be a pretty good present! Trying not to get too excited though ....

Good luck Millyz...that would be the best Valentines pressie ever
I recently bought some Quickcard, they were 3 for $9 which I thought was quite cheap but wish I had got First Response now
