Topic: They seriously wanted compensation??? Posted: 27 July 2008 at 5:41am |
Am I the only person who finds this outrageous that anyone would want compensation over this???!!! Surely the fact that people died would be more concerning than ambience????

Seems pretty silly - it's not like the wedding venue host could do anything about it. Some people

I can understand how upset they would have been over their wedding being disrpted....and in the USA they would have been rewarded....in the courts or by the likes of Oprah or Ellen prbably....
I feel for them as their memories wont be what we have from our wedding days...
having said that.....it wasnt the venues fault, and it was a tragedy....
says something for why maybe wedding insurance should exist huh?

I think it's terrible for them to even contemplate taking action.
It was a complete tragedy that brought a lot of grief to families and the community.
If the fire was at their venue and was the fault of the venue, then you could expect some compensation...
But not for something that happened down the road!!

That story really gave me the sh*ts personally! I can understand they were upset, sure, but I'm glad they weren't compensated. Might make me sound like a cold hearted b*tch, but that's what I think.
Can you tell I haven't had my coffee yet... ?

Funny, I thought the idea of a wedding was to marry the person you love and share the day with your family. The fact there was a such a tragedy so near by should have made them all the more grateful that they're together, married...and alive.
I mean sure, I understand that some people build up an idea of a 'perfect' wedding and are disappointed if something doesn't live up to expectations, but come on!
It's not even the venue owners fault.
Opportunist is the word that comes to mind here.

Yeah I read that yesterday and was really disgusted!
To me it reads like they think the spoiling of their wedding plans is as big a tragedy as the men who lost their lives in the fire. The two just don't compare!
I understand how heartbreaking it must be to have such an awful thing happen on your wedding day, but surely they must see how much worse it is for the families, friends and colleagues of the firefighters who were killed or injured!
I feel for them, but at the same time, how selfish of them to think that such a horrible tragedy is anyone's fault or that they deserve compensation.

The thing that gets me about this is they were all keen to have the media spotlight after the fire and take the gratitude for having gone into the fire and helped the firemen and then months later they decide that they want to sue this poor woman who had no control over the fact that a building exploded next door to her and killed one man and injured others.
They are sad and selfish to have put the poor woman thru this. Also makes me wonder if someone whispered in their ear and suggested that they sue the venue.

Well said Jasmine. That just disgusts me. Never mind the poor guy that died (not to mention his family) and the other firefighters whose lives will never be the same.

I read that article and thought how ridiculous too!!!
I think I would have admired my guests if they went to help in such a devastating event.
What could the venue have done different anyway!
Geez, they need to get over it.....

You'd hope Ellen or Oprah would have more sense than that and award something to the families that were actually affected by the trajedy!
I think this couple should be ashamed of themselves!

That couple really have a few screws lose in their head for doing that. You can't help an explosion like that, and hello at least she got to go home with her husband, there was a woman who lost her husband.

Debs - nup, that's the story. They had an interview with the couple on 60 Minutes or 20/20 (can't remember which) a few days after the fire. Apparently the food had to be sent home with the guests, and what wasn't taken was just left behind, and the reception was cut seriously short as the venue was evacuated (no way in or out as the access road was blocked).
The only thing that I can think of is that they may have wanted a discount on the venue costs (due to the event not being able to be completed - pay hirage for a full day and as a result of the fire, the day was cut seriously short so full time period not used kind of thing, or catering supplied but not able to be enjoyed by the people paying etc), the venue owner wouldn't give it to them and so they went this option. Though in that case I wouldn't say lack of ambience....

Good grief , thats all i can say .
Some people, even after seeing the tragedies that befall some people, still dont know how to count their blessings.
You know what ? if they do want to have that selfish , take things for granted attitude, then they ARE the victims, glad i dont have to live with such a disappointing outlook on what is an unguaranteed life.
They should be ashamed .
A wedding , while special yes, is a DAY , a day to celebrate a MARRIAGE, they still have theirs, the man who died and his wife, don't .

Thats where DH and I were married!
I can imagine the owner being very unsympathetic and not making the whole episode very pleasant on the couple, she was very difficult to deal with- in saying that, still don't 'get' why you would take things that far! Seems so shallow and thoughtless given the circumstances.
