........... did I think that I would have to give my baby an enema (sp?) but that is exactly what I have had to do twice today
So gross. His constipation got really bad and all the plunket suggestions hadn't worked, I even tried brown sugar in water (which plunket said not to do) and it still didn't work. Last night he kept waking up and would be screaming and straining, then would stop and I would settle him back to sleep. So horrible, doc has given me some lactulose as well to give him each day to hopeful get on top of this whole constipation issue.

I am in the process of swapping him to goats formula as I think he may be lactose intolerant as he got ezcema at the same time that I stopped bfing. Doc suggested a formula for constipation but it has extra lactose in it, he also doesn't think goats formula will help constipation. So now we don't know what to do.
Gonna give the karicare health line thing a ring and see what they suggest.

I stopped bfing cos I kept getting ill and now the formula is making DS ill. Can't win. Didn't realise formula could cause so many problems, if I had known I would have carried on bfing and just keep taking antibiotics for the infections. At least I'm big enough and ugly enough to cope with being unwell.

Big hugs to you, hope he gets better soon. You may be able to re lactate if you wanted to go down that road? Your milk never eally completely dries up did you know?
Some (not all) babies have trouble switching from BM to formula as it upsets the flora in their wee tummies to start with. Hope things sort out for you soon, it sucks when bubs is sick.

Hey man, I hear you on that!  Ella got so used to enema's they didn't bother her at all.  It's a case of 'better out than in' and I'm guessing little Spencer will just be very grateful for the relief they bring.

Hugs to you - I hope he's better soon.  Did the Doc tell you to give the Lactulose some time to take effect?  You can also try Coloxyl (it's a stool softener, so works differently to the way that Lactulose does).

Spencer seems better now, he did a nice yellow poo all by himself this afternoon.
DH shouted at me when I said I wish I had carried on bfing, I got really ill with mastitis 5 times in 11 weeks no matter what I did i just kept getting blocked ducts and infections, he wanted me to stop after the 2nd infection but I'm a stubborn kinda person.

I hope you're not beating yourself up over your decision, though!  Sounds like a good move, that one.  Constipation happens to breastfed babies too.
