Ok I now that it is probably within the realms of normal developemental whatever, but when you go to a coffee group and the babies a month younger than yours are all now sitting it gets a bit worrying.

So is it fine for him to still not be able to sit?

Everything else seems fine, he rolls all around the lounge, is making the right moves towards crawling, and will lift his head up of the ground when laying on his back, will lunge forwards when in highchair/carseat sitting on me etc. Is just the sitting, not sure if he is just not interested/lazy/too distracted by his own feet or perhaps he just inherited my "flabs" and doesn't have the strength.

What do you think?

Not sure really, Bella has only JUST started to sit unsupported, maybe 4-5 seconds at a time, but she too likes to stare at her feet and winds up folding in the middle!!! I don't think you need to panic yet, as far as I can tell, babies will set their own schedule and they are ALL different. My sister's youngest was sitting/crawling at 5 months old but didn't walk any earlier, and it was more of a hassle for my sis as she kept getting into everything! hehe

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Daniel until very recently didn't really want to sit either, he was far too nosey and got distracted so quickly that he always fell over. He's getting the hang of it now though.

Spencer will get there when he's ready

My girl didn't sit until 8.5 months - but she was crawling at 7.5 months.
Don't worry, he'll do it when he's ready

Put him in a box (from the supermarket or such) and prop him up with pillows. I used to do that so that she could see me when I was busy doing chores etc

I know it is easy to say but I wouldn't worry. Babies in our coffee group who are a month or so younger than Jack are crawling or moving themselves around the floor and Jack just sits there, so I know how you feel.

I just try and remind myself that each baby is different and do things in there own time.

Alex didn't sit until he was 7.5 months, and even them he wasn't very steady. It took him until 9 months to be able to sit well unaided. It's hard not to worry and be impatient, but he will do everything in his own time! And now I look at my little terror, and think why did I ever want you to be able to move!!

I agree, I am not jealous of the other mum's I Know who have mobile babies. I know that Jack will pretty much stay where I put him, much easier for me!

Hi I was worried too about my son not sitting... But don't be he's moving around, rolling that's what's important.
It's actually better for babies to sit later not so much pressure on the spine.

Luke started sitting at 9 months and only was interested after i filled a bowl of water ( his favourite thing) and put it between his legs with a few toys. He loved playing in the water and forgot he was sitting!! I know how hard it is at coffee group luke was the oldest and not sitting, but as the plunket nurse said to me he's busy concentrating on other areas of development i.e. fine motor, language.

He will sit when he's ready. I'm waiting for Luke to crawl he's doing press ups at the moment.!!!

I so wouldn't worry. Josh was 11 months before he started sitting unsupported.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

LOL I used to say my gremlins were developmentally delayed coz they had no interest in sitting until close to 8 mths, didn't crawl till 10 and didn't walk till 14, when Maya was sitting at 5, crawling at 8 and walking at 10. But they did learn to sit eventually and crawl and walk too unfortunately lol.
