Topic: chlamydia Posted: 02 April 2008 at 3:32pm |
12 years ago being a silly young lass, I had an encounter with a guy who was a friend. Not long after, he also slept with a friend of mine. She contracted Chlamydia and just found out. Her scarring is so bad the doc has told her she'll need IVF and the chances are slim. I'm worried i'm in the same boat.
Are there visible signs on the cervix with aged chlamydia? I've had a few colcoscopys and Lletz procedures in the last couple of years. Do you think they would have picked up on it then?? I've had lots of smears for CIN3 but never asked for an STD test.

I think the only way to know for sure is to have a specific chlamydia test done. But IF it's positive, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll have any scarring. Years ago I found out I had chlamydia and have no idea how long I'd had it - was married at the time (and he completely denied giving it to me - as you would) and had only really been in serious relationships before that (serious to me, anyway ) so how I got it is a mystery. But I had a HSG done a few months ago, expecting the worst, and everything is completely fine. But the sooner you have the test, the sooner you know and the sooner you can start treatment if you need it.
Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Catie. I'm about to ring my doctor. I remember she asked me if I wanted an STD test done about 3 years ago with a smear but I can't for the life of me remember if I said yes or no. Hopefully I did as that will put my mind at rest. It's a scary concept.
Is there anything they can do if there is scarring?

I think you can have a procedure to clear your tubes, but I really don't know anything about it. Hopefully you said yes to STD test a few years ago

PHEW!! Just spoke to the nurse. Turns out my Doc took the initiative and did a full STI screen last year before my Lletz. All clear. Had me worried there!!

Yeah, last time I got a smear they tested for chlamydia without telling me, which was nice Lots of fun when I called for my results and the nurse announced loudly that my chlamydia test was clear.

Hi guys, apparently in the national cervical screening thing with smears, they test for clamydia at the same time. Only found that out the other day. They've been doing it for a number of years now.

They do all those with maternal health as well. Whe oyu get your first lot of bloods done, you get a full screen, including AIDS/HIV and its lovewly having "your HIV test came back neg" announced to the whole ward as well, lol!
