Topic: How often to BD? Posted: 05 May 2008 at 10:53am |
I have read so much conflicting information on how often to BD while ttc so I was just woundering what other people think?
Some websites say every 2nd day others say as often as possible and some some say just five days over ovulation.
We have mostly tried every 2nd day then every day around ov. This cycle we have made an effort to do it every day, that was fine the first few days but it does become a bit of a chore.
I hope this isn't TMI

We were told (by two different experts),
- every second day in the days leading up to and including O, (so if you O on day 14, then days 10, 12 and 14), and
- as much as possible on those days - the more the better, the two day thing is a myth. The risk with that, of course, is that if you do it too much on the first few days, poor DH is exhausted by the time O comes!
Sorry that's not much help!

I just read your thread on sperm meets egg plan, it's sounds a lot less hard work than doing it every day! I'll try it in my next cycle(hopefully I won't have to though! ).
Thanks for your suggestion too catie

catie, did you mean to do it several times on days 10, 12 & 14, not just once each day? I thought that guys had to rebuild up their resources?

We BD'd every 2nd day last month and it got us a BFP, so maybe that works

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant that the two-day theory (well, my understanding) is that you BD once every second day. However, another specialist told us that it's better to just do it as much as possible in the 3 days leading up to O - you'd probably end up with at least the same number of sperm plus they'd be fresher if you do it more.

I was speaking to a nurse about how long it takes for men to replenish their sperm and she explained that sperm works in a similar way to the way breast milk does in the sence that the more sperm is "used" the more production is increased. However this takes at least a week or more of increased "use" before the increased production starts.
It didn't make too much sence to me but I thought someone might find it interesting!

We BD'd every 2nd day then the 3 days in a row around ov. Worked for us It was the first month that we'd tried that pattern.
I know what you mean by it being a bit of a chore though. Every 2nd day was way more than both of us were used to. We had a laugh though, I would remind DH that he needed to come to bed so we can "have some sex". Very un-romantic! lol

By the time bed time came around I was so tired I just couldn't be bothered or DH would want to do at the most worst times(such as when desprate housewives is on ) so I started pulling Miya down for her afternoon sleep a little bit early while Chloe was at kindy and DH would come home for "lunch"!! It meant I wasn't dreading going to bed at night(yes it really did get that bad after every night 20days in a row! )
It helps to makes an effort though, one night DH lit some candles and picked rose petals for next door and sprinkled them on the bed, I felt so special!!
