Topic: Ughhh why is my body doing this now?(TMI) Posted: 20 September 2008 at 9:30pm |
Ugggghhhh sorry in advance for this vent. I'm guessing you guys have heard it all before but I'm just a bit frustrated and needing to vent. I don't usually post on forums - I'm more of a lurker :) Im guessing there is no answer you guys can give me re my problem but anyway.....
Warning about the too much information.....
Background: Partner and I are both 22, have been together 6 years, decided to start TTC at the end of June this year after partner had finished his last exams for his Engineering degree. Have been off the pill for about two years (using condoms in the meantime). Period has always been a bit irregular (average cycle is 34 days) and quite frankly I had never taken much notice of the dates of when it had come and gone. Was always very regular in the fact that the first day was very heavy and dark with cramps (still able to function just didn't feel the best), then second and third day still heavy but without the cramps and me feeling normal, after that it just dwindles down to nothing by about the fifth and sixth day.
Well, we were all very excited about TTC and started at the end of June as we planned.
Period came at 34 days in July which was fine except for the fact that it was very light coloured, light flow, no cramps on first day and (sorry for this TMI!!) smelled REALLY REALLY bad..... Like something rotten. Ewww. (Perhaps an infection, I have no idea, have never had this before!)Had taken tests but all were BFN.
So next period is really weird and arrives at 27 days! But feels a lot more normal except for no cramping on the first day like I normally get. Luckily it doesn't smell this time! Oh and my boobs have decided to go on a bit of a growth spurt all on their own....
Next period arrives at 32 days which is normal except for no cramps on day 1 but it has just kept on going! At nine days I am still spotting red blood.
This sucks - after years of my period being pretty normal, it suddenly decides to go on the blink when we start trying to conceive.
*sigh*
I know, I know - It has only been 3 months but I guess we just assumed that as we were both young, very fit and healthy that it would all happen pretty much instantaneously...... After all my mum had 5 "unplanned" kids!
If anyone has any suggestions on why my periods have gone so haywire (haven't been stressed or tired or overworked or anything, even with this TTC business ;p), it would be really cool to hear them! Too early to go back to the doctor I think (went for a checkup the day we started!), perhaps maybe at 6 months.
Anyway, thanks for putting up with my vent (we haven't told anyone we are trying to conceive, so noone besides partner to tell I hate my body to!), partner and I are both a bit baffled, hahaha.
Cheers,
Stace

Sorry to hear that Stace. Frustrating isn't it?
I would be thinking about going back to to doctor not because you haven't conceived yet, but because I'd be a bit concerned about your change in periods. Might be worth getting checked out for an infection of sorts?
Otherwise I can't offer much advice, just best of luck

Sorry, can't help with advice about the periods, but I'm 20 and DH is 21 and it still took us 6 months to conceive.. and we were really trying lol.
We knew it could take a few months, but after 5 BFN's I was beginning to wonder if we would ever conceive and thankfully month number 6 was the one.
Keep it up, your little one is just around the corner!
Good luck

I'd say get it checked by a doctor. I probably would have when the first one smelt funny.
I had a period that lasted 10 days when trying to conceive 9 years ago......ended up I was having a misscarriage, but didn't know as it was not clotty and spotted for the last 5 days, similar to yours. I had gone to doctor to get it checked and was shocked to see a bfp, and was sent to the hospital.
So get yourself checked out.
It hasn't been too long yet. See what your doctor says about your cycles.
Good luck

Morning Stace, I agree with the others, you should pop into the doctors and have a quick check up, it never hurts to have your gyno look around every so often. Smell is usually not a good thing, so it could be a minor infection that may have already cleared up. It could also have simply been left over old blood from a previous period, it happens.
It's amazing the crazy things our bodies start doing once we decide to to ttc, usually it means nothing, just an internal, sub-conscious readjustment which should settle down.
Good luck.

:) Thanks guys for all your answers - they helped a lot!
I kinda guessed as much about going back to the doctor (I'm one of those people that don't go unless they feel physically sick). So will try and make an appointment next week. Might also take a test (haven't taken one since before the period before this one - was trying to be restrained! :) ) just in case it might be something similar to what Nefertiti experienced.
Feel a lot better this morning so I guess the venting worked a bit. Thanks so much for listening!
