Just out of curiosity, is there anything to combat bad PMS I have been getting really bad PMS just like the world is ending, I cry, im grump and snappy and just really not myself and I feel so down and depressed it's only for that week before then I come right again Is there anything herbal that you can take to help with this? I have been doing heaps of exercise and having healthy food... normally a bottle of wine makes me feel better but I can't have that at the moment blllaaaah

Any suggestions??

You could try St Johns Wort, it's a natural mood enhancer.  You shouldn't use it while on the pill or pregnant though.

Rescue remedy might be helpful.

Oh im not preg or BF, just making a healthy change and tht means not using wine to combat my PMS plus dieting.

I just frown, I hate it... might see my GP soon (will try a few herbal things first)

I am the same - I suffer from hideous PMS - partly because of the endo. I get really snappy with DH, cry at the drop of hat, get terribly homesick and don't want to do anything - hate my job don't want to go to work, don't want to do anything if I'm at home and just hate the world in general. I'm not sure whether you can take any of these while breastfeeding but this is what I take on recommendation of the dietician:
Clinician's multivitamin (has heaps of different vitamins and minerals in it - has all the recommended levels of the B vitamins too which are supposed to be good for stress)
Evening Primrose Oil (supposed to be good for PMS)
Magnesium (helps with cramps)
Calcium (helps with magnesium absorption)

I've found that since taking these my PMS (and generally my mood and energy levels throughout the month) have been greatly improved. I still get a little bit down in the dumps with PMS but nowehere near as bad as I was.

In that case definitely try St Johns Wort.  You can get it in pills or capsules and it's a fantastic wee herb.  When I started taking it I couldn't believe how much energy I had.  A friend of mine used it when she stopped smoking and it helped her a lot too.

yes definitely St Johns Wort. My GP was going to get me to take it after I came off the AD's but didn't because we're TTC (wasn't worried about the BFing though).

I have never tried St Johns Wort so cant comment on it but I have been taking something for about a year and half and I have never been better.  About 6mths after starting on it I took myself off AD's (this was just after xmas last year) and have been improving since.  I wouldn't say its a miracle thing and I still have down days but now I can count them instead of having to try and find the good days.

Res-V Plus - I have only been taking 1 tab a day for most of the time, I find that if I having a heavy stress load an extra 1 for a few days does help, & I can notice if I forget to take them for a couple of days in a row.  The cost is round $100 for 6mth supply and for me has been well worth the investment (we tend not to make the investment in our own health but I think this one is worth it!)

If you're on ANY other kind of medication, you need to check with your GP about taking St Johns Wort.

I have got a tea from the health shop called PMT Ease from a company called Artemis, but haven't really been taking regularly enough to notice yet.

That's the other thing I take that is supposed to be really good for PMS - Flaxseed Oil (Omega3 and Omega 6). There is a Waihi Bush Organic range that has one called FlaxBoost - it also contains EPO and blackcurrent seed oil so is specially formulated for women.

I use chocolate as a general mood enhancer. But if you want to eat healthy it's probably not the best thing to eat.

edited because I can't spell

Hehe yeah the chocolate usually follows the wine

Will have a go at a few of these things and see how I go! Thanks for the wealth of information ladies! Much more reliable than google!

fish oil is excellent (which is omega's just like flax oil)
fish oil is good for anyone and everyone to take.

Vitex is a good hormone balance also helps with regular cycles.

Shame about the chocolate! wish it made it better not worse!

Those teas are great. We have Tummy Tea and PMTea (must have been it's old name) and they seem to work really well. Esp the tummy tea - if you're full of gas and take that it erm *works* really well.

Diddo to this.

I took Evening Primrose Oil pre-pregnancy.
During pregnancy I took Flaxseed oil which made DHs life a lot easier
I turn in to the anti-christ once a month if I don't take one of those. [
