This may seem like a silly question but.......

What should I take to the hospital to wear in the birthing pool? Do I need to take anything? I don't have togs (or similar) that fit and don't want to have to go out and buy anything.

with one of mine I wore a bikini top and bottom and with the other I just wore a singlet and undies. My friend went naked but I wasnt to keen on that although I panicked when I need to push that my bottoms were still on and my poor husband struggled to take my bottom halfs off he he, so maybe taking the bottom halves off a little earlier is the key!!!

I went into labour at night, so went to the hospital in singlet, undies and nightie - then just went into pool in my singlet. just before she was born, took my singlet off so we could have skin-to-skin in the pool.

good luck - I hope you love the pool as much as I did, it was bliss!

I went naked, no one seemed to mind. I didn't birth in the birthing pool but just hung out in there for a lot of my labour.
What ever you are comfortable with. The medical staff have seen it all a thousand times before :)

Thats true, I guess they have seen it all before!
I don't want to birth in the pool just hang out a bit whilst in labour. Think I might just go with the singlet option.
Thanks all

i have packed an extra long and comfy singlet to wear while labouring in the pool... i intend to take off the singlet just before bubs comes out for immediate skin to skin contact...

I just wore a teeshirt was in the pool from 8.30 till 1254am didnt wear anything on the bottom but the tee was slightly baggy. One thing id say is it was a little hard and cold to get off once bubs was out.

I wore just a nursing bra, and intended on birthing in the pool but ended up getting out as contractions slowed.

Still had the skin to skin and was able to feed due to drop down cups :)

I have packed a singlet I brought from the underwear section in Farmers, its so light so wouldn't take long to dry once out of the pool, plus you can just slip arms out of straps easily for skin to skin contact

I packed a singlet in my bag in case I wanted to wear it but was going to see what I felt like at the time.
Unfortunately though I never made it into the pool, only arrived at the hospital about 30min before Ben was born! They started to fill the pool for me we never made it in there

i went in the nuddy both times. first time didnt get to birth in the pool, but 2nd time did. and not having anything on meant i can lean on any angle i wanted. if i had a baggy shirt on, it would have got in the way of feeling babies head etc.

Oooo good question - i was thinking maybe just a cheap nursing bra.

Also is the birthing pool cold? i like my baths pretty warm so wondering if i would get cold in the pool? Is it the same temp as a bath or like the temp of a swimming pool IYKWIM....

it has to be a certain temp. from memory it was 37degree which is normal body temp. otherwise baby can go into shock i think. i know mine was a bit too cold in the end cos it was so rushed (the 2nd time)

When I frollicked around during labour it was just a nice temperature, not too cold, but not roasty warm. I think if you are going to have your baby in the pool they cool it down to 'baby temperature' before the birth.

I wore a bikini - worked well, though I was out of half of it and on the bed for the latter part.

I went and bought a cheap nursing singlet today to use in the pool. Thought even if I don't use it then it is something that will be used otherwise

the nursing singlets are fantastic! I sleep in mine often. Also are great for under clothes to cover your tummy whilst you breastfeed.
