depending on how long his food has stayed down for macks spew looks different. it can just look like normal formula coming back up, it can be a bit chunky or it can look like cottage cheese mixed in clear water. its gross. he is on S26-AR and ranitidine. if he is still quite spilly maybe try putting him on the anti-reflux. its been amazing for us cos he used to spill really really bad.

Yep, cows milk spew is very different to Neocate spew, in fact just about everything is different to Neocate spew coz Neocate is just special like that (gotta love the black poos too ).

The curdled milk/cottage cheese appearance is caused by the milk mixing with the stomach acid and curdling, whereas the Neocate doesn't curdle as it's proteins are different.

Random and OT but did you see 20/20 the other day? I thought of Jackson when I was watching it.

Thanks guys, sounds like the curdled look is relatively normal. Perhaps it is more curdled as Jackson is on relatively less Losec than he used to be?

Interesting point about the S26. Jackson was always good on the S26 1st stage, but I have noticed that the 2nd stage formula is REALLY frothy. And bad wind for him can be dangerous.

I didn't watch 20/20. I read the synopsis and it talked about kids who NEVER eat. Which is a bit more extreme than Jackson, so to be honest I didn't want to watch something that was going to scare me more. I think actually the programme was perhaps a bit relevant to us.... we've researched briefly the Austria place, but it would be a long time before we would need to think that might be our only hope. There are some more options to exhaust in NZ/Aus first I think. Plus, I don't know how in hell we could possibly afford such a treatment plan. Anyway, I was too afraid to watch so I didn't!!

Yes, definately. I think kids learn that eating is painful, and then the psychological problems begin. But I don't believe any course of treatment of the psychological factors would be successful until the physiological was under control.

Interestingly, the vast majority of babies with these severe eating problems were either premature, have heart problems or have severe GORD/GERD. Jackson doesn't fit any of those, which is why it's SO perplexing for us.

In Jackson's case, I definately believe there is a combination of psychological and physiological. The paed thought the physiological was now under control, but he saw evidence with me the other day which proved to him that there is something very physical still going on with Jackson. We just can't find what is causing it. Thankfully, because of Jackson's wee random episode, we're finally getting a couple more tests we wanted.

But unfortunately, until we find the physical problem, I don't think Jackson will come right. It's very frustrating.

I don't think you would find it too upsetting (but then it's hard for me to gauge as I don't live with Jackson's issues every day!), it was quite positive in it's approach. I'm not sure how relevant it would be, it was mainly just talking to two families, one who had done the Austrian treatment and been successful and one who hadn't but were considering it. The kids were 4-5 years old, so I guess if nothing else, it might be interesting to see the perspective of parents who have dealt with it in preschoolers.

I am amazed how many children have some degree of eating difficulties. You never really hear of it until it happens!
