Topic: Car seat 2 1/2 year old on...HELP!!! Posted: 28 September 2009 at 1:25pm |
ok so Ella is TALL....hit a metre and is 15 kgs...so we thought we would look at new carseats for her. She has a meridian AHR right now and we will hold onto that in case we ever have another baby...
BUT what ones are good options for the next step to take her thru???
We looked at ones with nice head adjustable thingeys but not padded out seats, some up to 26 kg, some up to 40 kg plus....some with arm rests some with out...
we do drive a fair bit and go to the beach house (2.5 hours each way) a lot so want something comfy - she has always complained of a sore back in the AHR and I swear it is missing a piece of padding in the back!
Ideas please.....and any linkeys too much appreciated...remember she is TALL...and that IS a consideration for us...but is only 2 1/2 - so 5 point harness to start I think will settle my mind a little....

Maya had (and still has) a Cosco Alpha Omega from The Baby Factory, it goes up to 36kg roughly and had a 5 point harness for when she was younger, plus it anchored - a lot of the other convertible boosters don't.
Gremlins have the Supernanny ones, they're OK, but I like the Alpha Omega way better.

We have just bought Sam the Recaro Young Sport. It does up to 36 kgs and although it doesn't have an anchor, it is by far the best car seat we could find. We wanted something with lots of padding as Sam is still quite little and I wanted her in more of a car seat type design not a booster.
It must be comfy as the first time we took her anywhere in it she was asleep within 10 minutes :)
It certainly isn't the cheapest seat - retails around $699 but is the best and safest we could buy.
You can get them from Baby on the Move - not sure if anybody else sells them though.

Jack has a booster seat from Baby Factory, Edinburgh I think although it isn't the deluxe one. Jack is rather tall although not as tall as your daughter, we found that the on alot of the booster seats the shoulder straps didn't go very high. This seat had the most room for him to grow. It has a 5point harness now but the back can be taken off when he is older and just the base and a normal seatbelt used.

We've got Narnia's for our 2, they go up to age aobut 12 iwas told. Ours converts from 5 point harness to booster with back to booster with no back, so will do they kids forever. I cannot reccomend them anough. Oh and not bulky, nice and slim fit. from $189ish I think, I got mine form baby on the move, but baby city has them also.

ooh and yeah i dont want to spend too much really (see I CAN be tight when I want to be!)...we have three cars that run her around -each with a seat in...altho I am only going to do two...so one for my truck for every day and travel...im ok to go more xpensive....and the other for daddys car / grannies car....can be cheaper and less pluses to it...
thanks for suggestions...off to research...
Emma - does anyone still stock that one Maya had? I cant find it....ugh!

AFAIK the Baby Factory do, but they don't have all their stock online. Will do a quick search and see if I can find one online.

We ended up getting a safe and sound Explorer as it seemed to be the only one that had a harness that would last DS any length of time (and I sat him in pretty much any I could find) as he is quite long in the torso. Most of the others he was already on the top slot and I wanted to be able to keep him harnessed for longer. It also has the option of getting an extra harness that goes up to 26kg when they out grow the 18kg inbuilt one. Goes up to 36kg as a booster with car seatbelt

We got out little one the Phil & Teds one that converts into a booster when the time comes. Has a harness untill she is ready for the seatbelt. Was $200 and is fantasic, all the covers come off to be washed and is secured with a seatbelt which locks it in very tight.
