Topic: Preg Test - False Negative at 15DPO? Posted: 21 November 2009 at 1:08am |
Firstly, I'm not TTC ... that's quite possibly the last thing on my mind, I have so much going on atm that I'd be in a right pickle if i was. Theres Only one night in question and that was three weeks ago now -
I went to family planning on Mon - which was a couple days after period was due, and roughly 15days after our 'oopsie'. The test said neg but the Dr there told me to come back in a week to re-test if my period still hasn't come because apparently 14-15dpo is the BARE MINIMUM that these tests pick up accurate results- the way she said this made me wonder, can a person go weeks without it being picked up?
It's now a week late, the ONLY time my period has ever been late was when i was preg with DS and i seriously don't feel like it's coming. For a couple nights there i had bleeding gums when i brushed my teeth (have never had that before) and my boobs are sore, wouldn't say tender or swollen ...just out of sorts.
With him I tested the day of my missed period and the line came up almost instantly, is it true that you can still test negative for weeks after your period is due? What should I do...I'm in a bit of a state of panic.
ETA: should add that it wasn't just a random one night stand, I am with someone, have been for a couple months now and he'd be 100% supportive if i was, that I can guarantee. Still not the right time or circumstances though.

In your shoes, I'd just get a bloodtest to put my mind at ease.

The medical profession use quickcards which can be a little slow to detect hcg in comparison to other HPTs... and I guess seeing you haven't been charting or anything ovulation could be a little later too as sperm can live a few days at least... From what I understand when you are not exact on dates etc 19 days post BD should give pretty reliable results. You could buy a First Response from the supermarket as they have proven more sensitive than quickcards and would likely detect any HcG now if there is any to detect. GL

Ok think I might get him to go get one, he keeps offering and I keep saying no because I hate the idea of wasting money should we keep getting negative results (plus part of me really isn't ready for that kind of news) *sigh*.
If this next one comes back negative should I take it my period is just late for whatever reason?

I think seeing it would be 20 days post BD you could pretty safely say a BFN is a BFN... of course if af didn't arrive in another week then maybe you'd need a blood test...

A discover test is even more sensitive but they are more expensive and only avaliable from Radius chemists.
I got my line on a discover test at 10DPO and I have heard of them showing up as early as 8DPO as they work 4 days before period is due.
Good luck, I hope you get the result you want, whatever that may be

Is it possible that BuzzyB did conceive, but it mmc'd, therefore she is now late for her AF? Cause I wonder if that's what is happening to me (read my latest post in 2WW).

I guess that would be possible too MB but I think her symptoms would have gone as well. Don't mmc'd this early just get reabsorbed by the body. I think an HPT is in order BB... and I don't think that's what's happening to you MB

Hi there - I just thought I should mention that my AF was like clockwork every 28 - 30 days but the first time DP and I were "intimate" we didn't use protection and of course I was then a week late, but I wasn't UTD. I think I was just so worried that I might be that I sort of talked myself into it. Once I tested and got a BFN AF only took a couple of days to show. I know it's easier said than done but maybe if you try and relax and distract yourself with other things AF will decide you're no fun to tease anymore
FX you get the result you want :)

Was stressed because of assignments...on top of the stress of maybe being pregnant lol. But alas AF finally arrived..bless her.

OMG - this has been happening to me also. Sorry to hijack your thread!
My AF has been great, always on time. But now I am 4 days over and am starting to get a wee bit panicky!! I have been having strange sensations in my uterus and also having sore boobs!
DH and I have talked about not having anymore children, fingers crossed something happens soon.

Sorry for not updating sooner, busy busy here! Just found out we got accepted for a rental property today ...after THREE months of searching and disappointment after disappointment - AND my period arrived this morning too so smiles all around here.
Sounds horrible being happy but it's totally not the right time, I want to wait till at least another year or two and preferably until I'm married and do it properly second time around. Least to say the topic of sex hasn't even been brought up again sex, abstinence here!
Thanks for all your replies
