Topic: North Shore Doctor Posted: 18 October 2010 at 10:40am |
Hi, hope im posting in the right place. Im looking to maybe enrol with a new doctor and hoped someone could recommend me a good family doctor, hopefully with low-ish fees?
I go to a doctor in Takapuna at the moment and shes great but they are so so busy its really hard to get in, and they charge $12 for under 6s and over 6s jumps to $35 or something...
If there is nowhere that is good thats cheaper then I will stay, but I just get so frustrated when I hear that there are some doctors out there who dont charge for under 6s, or only charge a small surcharge, and until I go back to work, this one income thing means we would benefit hugely if we could find somewhere!

Hi Jasmine
I used to live on the shore... have you checked out the Apollo Medical Centre? I was under Helen McDonald & From memory they dont charge for under 6's & Maternity appointments. they have quite a decent team on board there so its easy to get an app (even i found it easy when Helen wasnt around considering I wont go into see a male for girl problems)

Hey we just switched to Medical on Akoranga (Te Puna Hauora (sp?) ) and they are free for 5 and under, which includes all most of their prescriptions etc, we've only been there twice, but have been good both times

Im at Apollo at the moment and they do charge for under 6s, maybe it's a new thing. So Im changing for the same reason.
Im looking to go to the North Harbour medical centre on Sunset Road, haven't enrolled yet so cant say if they are good but under 6's are free and adults are $40 which is the best Ive seen

It is amazing how much prices vary. I go to Stoddard Rd Medical Centre in Mt Roskill, kids are free and adults are $17 $35 if it is after 6pm or on a Saturday.

I can recommend Waiake Medical Centre but might be too far from you.

Wow Red, super jealous! It frustrates me as it doesnt seem to matter what the area is like over here, (socio-economically) they all charge heaps!!
Thanks for your ideas, I live one minute from Sunset Road so I think that might be the one for us!

Just called North Harbour and I hope they are good, they sound great! Unlike most of the other drs, even though it takes months for the funding to come through, they said they will charge $70 for the first visit as a one off then it drops to the $40 for adults, and under 6s are free like you said mrsh101. And if the child is the first visit, its a one off charge of $25.
Still a little nervous, I hope the doctors are nice, as I have to say, both of my doctors are wonderful, but I went yesterday and realised they actually go up to $32 when the child turns 5! Which is only months away for my big girl and shes asthmatic with eczema so we live at the doctors.
