Topic: Incredibly painful let down Posted: 15 November 2010 at 12:35pm |
Am I the only one?? Surely not! EVERY time my milk lets down it is agony...feeding in general is going great, I have ridiculous amounts of milk (it sprays in about 4 different directions!), my breasts & nipples are totally fine and not sore; it's just that flippin let down! It feels like my boobs are being squeezed...like contractions or something! Ouchy
I had it with my DD1 as well, but thankfully it stopped after a few months. DD2 is now 4 weeks and I still have it.
Anyone else get this, or know why I do??!

I had it for a long time, and it got better to the point where sometimes I barely feel it at all - just a tiny flash of a tingle and that's it. It was agony at first though, much like you're describing, and all other aspects of feeding were fine. I found deep breathing / meditation / visualisation helpful, as well as dosing up on Rescue Remedy right before a feed. For me it passed after the first minute or so, and gradually that time became shorter.

Yep I had this problem too and with the squirting everywhere lol!, I still occasionally the pain with let down, sort of like a cramping in my boob, but definitely less severe then what it was when I first started out breastfeeding, and like HippyMama said too, its gradually gotten shorter the older T gets, im sure it will get a lot less severe

It will calm down eventually, I had to wear nipple pads till my boy was 14 months. The painful let down stopped quicker than the spraying though. I always tried to just remember is better to have too much than too little milk

Yep, I've had painful letdowns up until about a month ago, now I can still feel it but it doesn't make me wince anymore.

Yeah I had a painful letdown when breastfeeding Bella, it was like an intense throbbing, made me grit my teeth thats for sure.
I also had a fast forceful letdown, and milk would spray everywhere

Yeah I had this with #2 as well, It is rather embarassing to stop in the supermarket with no child and press on your boobs to make the pain go away.
So you definitely are not alone & it does ease up over time.
