while pregnant?  I'm guessing it will be ok as its prob packed with preservatives and we eat tuna out of a can.  But does anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

If it's packed full of preservatives I would avoid it for that reason alone

I say if in doubt, avoid.

Yeah I'm a 'if in doubt - avoid' person too!

The idea of chicken in a can seems so weird... I just can't bring myself to eat it though it does look super tasty!

Maybe ask your mw?

From a pregnant point of view..how could it be bad? It's definitely cooked. No different than tuna in a can. Can't say I think it's very nice though....

Have been eating it since before getting UTD and it's yum!! DH thinks its just wrong too but I find it's more convenient than cooking up a chicken breast whenever I want more protein in my lunch, for example.

I particularly like the smoked flavour, goes really well in pasta or risotto. And the mayo flavour is great for sandwiches. And just checked one of my tins... has no preservatives (according to the label) and has more protein than tinned salmon per 100g!

I was super-catious when I was pregnant, and I wouldn't have been worried about eating it. It's been processed like all canned foods, it'll be fine till you open it (I wouldn't leave it unopened, though).

As far as preservatives go, why would it have more than tinned tuna? I happily eat that!

it should be fine. foods are canned at over 118 degrees, so any bacteria will be dead and most toxins will be destroyed. I would just eat it as soon as you open it and not leave it.

Awesome, I thought it would be ok.  It's weird that everyone thinks chicken in a can is wrong but fish in a can isn't

I've wondered about this too.
Everyone thinks canned tuna is ok, and I don't see how it's different from that on a food safety p.o.v.
I stuggle to find lunches and chop chop is one thing I can have in my drawer at work and all I need to add is a bread bun.
If I wasn't UTD or so lazy I'd prefer to eat fresh or deli chicken but it's a good substitute.

Hi everyone...I was reading about safety in pregnancy and canned meat okay as long as no dents and eaten straight away. Just Fish high in mercury in moderation.

I love putting the Chop chop chicken in my homemade sushi with freshly made rice      and avocado. I use the chicken and mayo. Very nice that way and safe ...Not sure of other ways to have the canned chicken that I would like...? Chicken salad...

I'm usually very food conscious in pregnancy too...
