Does anyone know where to get these from? Have only seen cotton ones but want to get woollen ones.
Apparently my grandma was going to knit some, but will probably need them before she gets around to it

35% off JK at the moment, making merino hats $11. They're cute and have good resale potential on TradeMe. Check on TM too.

Don't know about your local plunket but here you can go to the plunket house and they have lots of woolies for free.
Or if you want merino, I liked the coochycoo ones
ETA otherwise yeah, go with TM I've seen loads on there!!

Our MW rooms have them for sale pretty cheaply, knitted and donated by people, and the local early years service have them for free. Maybe ask your MW?

I got given ten trillion from various knitters for DD, but I've given them all away now, bar the few I'm keeping for #2.

Oh awesome thanks guys! Will go shopping on Monday and look in JK and the baby factory, and on TM too (duh don't know why I didn't think of TM!)

I've spent today teaching myself how to knit on youtube lol so working on one now, but will probably only be able to make the one before bubs is born haha.
Bizzy, we didn't get to keep the cute wee knitted hat they put on Chelsea when she was born Have photos of her wearing it though!

Good luck with the knitting. I might give it ago also
There is a FB group Weebits. They sell merino hats & outfits etc. They are just gorgeous but a bit expensive

Theres also that knitting place in upper hutt, it's on the main road on the left as you go up on the first block, might be called "something crafty" sooooo many knitted things there. I brought some gorgeous merino wool sets (jersey and hat) for about $40.

lol Bizzy, Jae and D got knitted hats from hospital too, but I was told it was a c-section thing?

I 2nd looking on TM, ask them how stretchy the hats are, and circ of hat brim before bidding though (you dont want to buy a hat and find its too tight around their head, or keeps slipping over their wee faces!)

Farmers have lovely merino ones too, we got a lovely cream one that was given to DD before she was born, it fitted for ages and was nice and soft and doesnt irritate their skin like wool does JK would prob be cheaper tho with their sale on.
I do like supporting NZ handmade stuff tho, so TM is a good idea (but I would only get merino stuff, but thats cos DD has sensitive skin, most babes would prob tolerate it fine )

I got some merino items off Hey Baby and bought a lovely black merino beanie for $5! I just had a look and they still have some hats listed- 2 sizes of black ones for $5 each and one size white hat for $10. Its fairly nice merino too- its about the only hat DS will tolerate at the moment!

Coochycoo definitely have the cutest softest merino beanies I have seen.
They are actually the merino stuff that gets sent to Antarctica, so we have a cool beanie for DS that has Scott Base written on it
Plus we had a bunch for him when he was newborn, and they were soooo soft and fitted for ages (in fact he can still fit at 10mo the newborn ones he had)

If it's knitted in baby wool (8-ply maybe???) then it's really soft and lovely, it doesn't have to be merino. My mum knitted some really lovely clothes for DD and they are sooo soft.

Rach, if you're in J'ville anytime soon there's a little shop by the community centre that sells scrummy handknitted stuff for babies, reasonable prices too. I got a lovely cream cardie and bootie set for DS when he was a newborn - I'm sure there'll be hats in there too.

(oh and baby-weight yarn is usually 3 or 4 ply )
