Topic: Poorly 13 month old.. Posted: 13 March 2012 at 8:42am |
My little one has been ill for quite some time with a virus, she has been to GP and ED and will be going to the GP again today as shes still not well and has been sick for 7 days now..
my question is does anyone know of anything natural we can give bubby to aid clearing a chesty infection other then antibiotics? I am not a fan (though getting some for her today anyway) of antibiotics but im not sure what else i can give her to help her get rid of her chestyness?

Standing in the steamy bathroom will help break it up a little, but will probably only work temporarily.
My littlest has had three loads of ABs in his short life. While I wasn't keen on giving them to him they fixed him up really quickly and made for a much happier wee boy (and Mummy!).
Hope she's better soon :)

a vaporiser ? The same as steaming water etc but you can leave it on in the room all night, and it infuses the menthol etc into the air to help break up the mucus. I, not using mine at present so If you have someone who can collect from me in dairy flat your welcome to borrow it, and then just drop back to my besties when your done, she lives out west too. Just PM if you want it sweet

Maybe talk to the pharmacist but there's something called Prospan which is a dried ivy leaf extract which helps clear airways. DS is 2.5 now but I'm pretty sure we used it on him from quite early on, but like I say, it'd pay to double check.
Comvita also do some winter wellness type remedies which might help, but sometimes it really does take antibiotics if it is really bad

well the option is there hun, you just have to fill it with water and plug it in ;)
You could also put karvol oil in her bed, on a tissue under her sheet. and probiotics will help conteract the bad effects of antibiotics, but also help to rebuild her immunity
Antibiotics have their place , and if your babe is sick then I think its a good option. Its when they are always prescribed that thye can become resisitant
Good luck!
