we have found out our 7 wk old is tongue tied (took him to dc at 5 wks as wasnt latching on right when bfding and only sleeping 30-45mins then waking for another feed) we are waiting to see a pead at taranaki base but at his 6 wk check was told that they no longer 'snip'. I want to keep bfding but its getting harder and sore to keep going this way.

My question is does anyone know private or not an oral surgeon or doctor that specialise in this

My DD had a complex posterior tongue tie and the only 2 treatment options for her were laser surgery performed by a specialist dentist or oral surgery performed at a private hospital. We chose the laser surgery based on recovery time and the fact it could be performed without anesthetic. We are lucky as both our options were local and the specialist dentist we saw is one of the best (and few) who perform the frentomy procedure.
He is at Naenae Dental Centre and we are in Wellington. Do you have a Lactation Consultant in your area? They may be able to help you out with finding someone who will release the tie. Otherwise, would a trip to Wellington be worth it?

You might want to check there are no other issues with the breastfeeding as sometimes tongue tie doesnt affect bf at all.
