Topic: Totally morbid question... Posted: 18 April 2006 at 2:49pm |
Hi
I am 17 weeks and I was just wondering how confident I should be that things will continue safely with my pregnancy....without trying to sound morbid I have been holding back on my excitement until now, I mean i have been excited but at the same time I realise I have been a bit reserved cos I just dont want to get attached just incase, by some small chance, something happens. I have not even bought a single thing up until today when i bought a little t-shirt....I guess I just dont want to jinx it. Am I being overly paranoid (probably!) - but I was wonering if I can start to get excoted now, I dont want to be detatched like this for much longer, I want to get excited, but at the same time I am scared to....
sorry for sounding liek a sad sack, usually I am a very optemistic person, but this pregnancy has really made me paranoid!!!!...help!!!

It is TOTALLY normal!!! I guess it's like you hold your breath to get to the "magic" 14 week mark, then can't stop holding!!
My best friend had a still born baby when I was 16 weeks, preggy and I had 2 friends have miscarriages, so it made me so much more aware how think the thread of life can be.
Big hugs, don't be scared of jinxing yourself chicky. It is normal to feel that way, but if you think it is getting *too* morbid, have a chat to your midwife or gp.
Take care!

hey sweets i feel exactly the same way! it's strange as i was fine with jack, was a little paranoid up until i heard his heartbeat for the first time at 13wks then felt him move at 17wks. from there, i was so excited about the pregnancy.
this time, i felt bubs move at 13wks, but havn't really felt him since and am a little worried. we heard the heartbeat at 14wks and all is well but i just don't seem to be as excited this time around and more panicked that something will go wrong!
have you booked in for your scan yet? i'm sure that everything will be fine, and once you've seen bubs at the scan you will start to feel better
sorry for the ramble, just wanted to let you know you are not alone in feeling this way and yes.....you can start to get excited now!
and hey, we are due only a few days apart

the thing is from now for the rest of your life you are going to have to worry about this child and thats just part of being a mum. First you worry you cant get pregnant then you worry you might miscarry then its what if something goes wrong with the birth and when they finally are in your arms there are a whole lot of other things to worry about. I didnt let myself get attached to Kobe or this pregnancy for a long time, this one especially but I think you get to a point where you have to relax and start enjoying it. The chances of anything going wrong are pretty small really and there is nothing you can do about it now so start bonding with your baby!

Yep it's definitely normal to worry about the pregnancy like that... Personally (and this is going to probably sound gross), but up until even only recently I used to check my knickers every time I went to the loo just in case there was blood there and I was miscarrying!! Totally paranoid I know but I couldn't help it

pepsi- i check each the toilet paper each time too, right to the end!!!!!
and yes like everyone says its totally normal to worry like that during pregnancy.
this is my worst worrying pregancy too, i was sure i would miscarry or something would go wrong. its proberly because i had heard sooo many horror stories over the last year myself. my bro-in-law's cousin had her 20 week scan to find out there was something really wrong with her baby, and she couldnt continue the pregnancy as her baby wouldnt live and it was toxic for her (long story) and then shortly after another girl had a miscarrage, a friend or mine lost her baby at 4 1/2 months (no heartbeat) and i felt like maybe it would happen to me.
worry is a good sign, it shows that we care!!!!!
im real happy that you went and brought the tee-shirt congrats!!
just take care, and try to relax (just a little!!!) and enjoy your pregnancy.
we are all here for you and each other on "oh baby"
you arent alone

Ask any one...I was the most paranoid person ever with my pregnancy (specially after my 3 bleeding episodes)....but I remember my Doc/midwife and the scan guy telling me that after you reach 14 weeks the chance of some thing going wrong is 5% and the longer you are pregnant the chances get smaller.....Be positive. You and your bub will be just fine. You can get excited...come on, you are carrying some thing amazing and precious.

yep its totally normal, I didnt want to get to excited either untill after 20 weeks (I'd had a m/c at 20 weeks! - long story... 4 negative pregnancy tests... was young so didnt know what was happening)
I think once you have a scan and see bubs you will come right

i am heaps more paranoid this time than i was with ella. i think when i was pregnant with her i was much more ignorant about it all. i still worry all the time and wait to feel him moving just to be sure he's still ok in there! i'm looking foward to moving up to the fortnightly then weekly visits from my midwife, then i can be reassured more often

I'm definitely more paranoid this time round. Partly coz ofmy recent m/c, but also coz of all the risks associated with twins. I have my 12 wk scan next week and am hoping that will help me relax a bit, but in all honesty I don't know if I will fully relax until I get to the 28 week viability point (I know smaller babies are viable, but the risks are huge).
It doesn't help that I have read so many horror stories, and know far too much about what can go wrong from my research for OHbaby! Plus I am a stresser by nature...

wow it's so re-assuring to know that you're not the only one having these feelings. i'm also guilty of checking the toilet paper everytime, which i never did with jack....whats up with that!??

I do that too, just in case ! (with the TP) Otherwise I try not to think about it too much and am usually "successful"
