Topic: traveling with kids...prams etc Posted: 10 May 2007 at 2:22pm |
Ok so we are going to aussie in Oct (was gana be sept but pushed back a few weeks now) and im a bit worried about my pram....i know its really stupid!!! but im taking that pram for several reasons and wont change my mind im just worried that its going to go walkabouts through luggage!!!????
So does it go through with the normal luggage??? like on the coveyer belt thingy for you to grab off??? cos thats what worries me is that any old person can see our pram going around and think "Aw yeah i like that pram i think il just grab that and walk off"...i havnt been overseas for quite a few years now so is that the way it works????

Once it was there waiting for us on the other side, already been put up ect. And once on the conveyer belt. Best thing to do it to actually call up and ask.
Maybe perhaps ask them to hold it for you where they put some of the more valuable stuff and you actually have to claim it in the end by giving a ticket to them and they go and fetch it. But depends from airline to airline.

When we went to Fiji, we were allowed to take our stroller on the plane and put it in the luggage thingee. On our way back, they wouldn't let us; when we arrived at the luggage area, it was sitting beside the luggage thingee and we had hand over a piece of paper to get it back.
We've also flown to Christchurch with our stroller and they packaged it up in a big plastic bag with proper labels and it went with the luggage, again it was by the luggage thingee and we just picked it up and put baby in it.
It might depend on how big it is and the airline. See if they'll put it in a bag for you, with proper luggage labels.

Amber, do you have the travel cover for the P&T? Possibly you could put the buggy in that then if it does go on the conveyer thingy then no-one will see what it is, so possible be less tempted to steal it?? I haven't travelled overseas since having Brenna so don't knwo what they do sorry....

It's called 'up & away' in the P&T's products booklet thingy... don't know how much it is. You could try Winkalotts as they sell P&T products and guarantee to beat store prices. They are great to deal with too

We are off to Aussie next week and we are taking our stroller, so I will let you know how it goes!
Have taken it to Chch on the plane before and no problems.

I've taken my buggy to Oz a few times (not the twin one, the single one I had for Maya). They make you check it in thru the oversized baggage counter and if you harrass them enough they'll find you a huge plastic bag to put it in so it doesn't get damaged. I'd say get one if you can coz I had the handle grip of my buggy damaged in transit to London
It comes out the other side with the oversized baggage, but it is just left with the other oversized stuff so if someone wanted to walk away with it I guess they could. I've never heard of that happening tho, and airlines have insurance to cover your bags up to a certain level of liability so if it did go missing you'd get paid out.

I took my big pushchair when we moved from japan to nz, and they put it in a sepearte compartment and we had to produce a thingy slip from "oversize luggage dept" to claim it. wasn't on the coveyer. in japan it was however.

They probably won't let you take it on the plane as it would take up too much room. Can you use the pod without the base? It'd make it much easier to transport and use in the rental car. We just got a metal clip for the seatbelt from a baby store and took our capsule down with us without the base. Just checked it in, same as the stroller.
Pain in the butt rental companies not having any eh!

When we flew to CHCH our mountain buggy was checked in as normal with our other bags. Im going to Melbourne in 2 weeks but this time I have hired a pushchair coz of ease on trams etc.
