Topic: TTC after Miscarriage Posted: 21 November 2009 at 5:56pm |
Just wondered if there were any girls out there that are ttc after a miscarriage. We got pg really quickly, on our 2nd try (!) but sadly miscarried at 7 weeks. It was a natural m/c so the doctor told me we could start trying again straight away. And being 37 I decided this was a good thing - no time to waste really. I didn't have a good feeling about our pg, something in my heart told me it probably wasn't going to work out. Its funny how you just get a feeling about things.
Its just such an awful thought that I wont be able to get pg again. Anyway, just wondered if anyone wanted to share their stories - ttc or sucess......

Hi Mrshopeful!
I got pregnant last year on an IUD, and sadly ended up miscarrying at 10 weeks, It wasn't a planned pregnancy but we definitely got excited about the idea only to have it taken away. After the miscarriage we decided to TTC we had gotten used to the idea of a baby and decided it was something we wanted. My miscarriage was also natural and my first cycle afterwards was really long, I think it ended up being almost 2 months. Once I got AF back though it was our 3rd cycle that I managed to fall pregnant again. We are now just over 5 weeks away from my due date. I'm sorry for your loss and just be aware that you may find when you get pregnant again you may be quite worried to start with, I still have moments of worrying that something is going to go wrong. I hope that it turns out well for you and sending lots of baby dust your way hun.
Good luck!!!

I am in my 3rd cycle of ttc after a m/c. We also conceived very easily the first time (1st month and only had sex once!), and all this waiting is proving very frustrating for me. My story is somewhere on the board already, I don't really want to share it again right now, sorry, it just wasn't straight forward, and then I had a couple of months of complications. Everything is all clear now though.

Hi MrsHopeful
I had a surprise pregnancy in April that I only realised I was having because I starting miscarrying I also mc naturally so was told could start concieving straight away........however we waited as DH and I were getting married in Oct and well I really really wanted to wear this dress I had
We actually did start ttc in Sep but on a casual basis then properly next cycle and with that one I did charting cause I really didn't expect to get preggers first time I just wanted to suss out my cycle but we were very fortunate and we have managed first time
Funny you say about the feelings and just knowing cause when I first found out being preggers in April I knew before I went to the Dr it wasn't right and I guess in a way this helped me move on from it. Im amazed actually how common mc is.
This pregnancy I feel really positive about it so fingers crossed it all goes really well.
Goodluck with ttc and Im sure its gonna happen for you............you know you can get pregnant so that is a good thing
Sorry that was abit of a long rant lol

We had 3 m/c before we got our little girls After each m/c, it took anywhere from 4 to 7 weeks for AF to come back. It was only after our last m/c (Sept 08) that we started TTC, with the help of a specialist because of our recurrent m/c history, and we got pg on the second cycle after the m/c (which was around 3 months after). I was on low dose aspirin, progesterone pessaries and 5mg of folic acid though, as my progesterone was too low to sustain a pregnancy, hence the recurrent m/c. The first m/c was an assisted m/c (misoprostol tablets) and the following two were natural.
Be aware that when you do get your BFP, it is very hard to relax and enjoy, for a lot of women. I had a positive feeling about my pregnancy from the word go, and although the girls were prem and I had GD, everything was perfect and so are they
Good luck to you - there is a few threads in the m/c section that might be of interest to you as well...

I had a mc (dandC) at 12 weeks feb 07 and then a healthy baby in feb 08 and another mc (natural ) in jan 09 and now 28 weeks pregnant with number two.. so yeah the first one we had to wait three months and the second it took longer than that to get preg again.. I have had stressful pregnancies..mostly due to worrying but doing better this time and the mc's also contributed to PND but I am fine and we have a wonderful 2 yr old and another due in feb.

I got preggers with Daniel unexpected. When we started trying again I got preggers really easy but I had an ectopic. I had to wait 6 months before we were allowed to try again as I was given drugs to expel the ectopic rather than going down the surgery route. Once we were allowed to try again I got preggers and had a natural miscarriage. The following month I got preggers yet again and had Jared at 22w gest as he had spina bifida.
To be honest with each of them I've had a gut feeling. With Daniel I knew it was gonna be fine. With the ectopic I was the one pushing the doc for a scan cause I knew it was more than a simple miscarriage about to happen but he didn't believe me. I knew I was going to miscarry the next time from the time I got the bfp. With Jared I knew I wouldn't miscarry in my gut but when it came time for the 20w scan I wasnt at all excited about it. I didnt really even want to go to it.
We are ttc again, I'm scared sh*tless about it because of the spina bifida thing and morning sickness

This ttc is a stressful thing isn't it especially when you have had prev problems. As I said I just feel positive about this pregnancy but I still can't help stressing just a little bit when I get a twinge and everything because of my previous history.
Sorry to hear about your little Jared Kebakat not an easy thing to deal with. Hope you get your next little baby real soon

I had an early miscarriage, and then got preggie straight away with our bubs. Apparently you're often more fertile after a mc. All the best

My mc was missed mc. We only knew about it as my cycles are long and we had a dating scan.
The baby had died at 7 weeks and I had a really bad cramp in the morning and knew, but no bleeding or any further cramping so for 5 days I thought it was all good.
I was so anxious before the scan and deep down I knew but had convinced myself all was good.
We had one cycle then concieved Jake the very next one. I was up and down through the first trimester. Some times really positve other times scared byeond belief. I never let myself fully connect with pg for fear it would end badly. Holding him for the first time was totally surreal, I just couldnt beleive he was mine!
I will still be nervous with the next pg, once you have lost a baby the innocence of pg is lost. But I am ok with that.
FX it happens again quicky for you hun.

I had Jake and mc'd on average every 3 months for the next almost 2 years before getting this BFP. I was like Stacey I knew it wasn't gonna work each time to the point that I didn't even tell family. This time round it just felt right and I had few if any concerns. We're about 27 weeks now and its been interesting but good.

You are inspirational to me minik8e - I am also TTC after 3 m/c's. Not managing to fall pg so easily now though, I have managed it fairly smartly after the last two once we started using Repromed. How did you know you had low progesterone BTW? I am self-medicating low dose asprin because it was mentioned that next time I get pg then Repromed will give me Heparin - I think it's the same thing?

MrsHopeful, are you seeing a doctor, or specialist? I am wondering if you are going to Repromed as well - it's your age that makes me hope that you are going to a specialist - I am also 37 (have had 3 mc's) and to be honest if I was 27 I wouldn't be so panicked about getting pg. I didn't meet DH until I was 33 and had never even considered having children with any of the dipsticks I used to date, they were hardly father-figures LOL! DH is the perfect hubby and father-figure and I look forward to they day I bear us a child right through to the healthy birth day - positive thinking here :)

Hi Maebeebaby....
No, I am not seeing a specialist.....yet. I have only been trying to conceive since mid august, got pg almost straight away and miscarried. They wont want a bar of me until it has happened at least twice. As horrible as it sounds, I think miscarrying your first is quite common......so I will try (am trying) again and hope for the best. If it does happen again I will ask that they do some tests although I'm sure my doctor will suggest that. I met my DH at 33 as well, he was defo worth the wait! So I hope and pray our wish comes true soon

Yes they will want a bar of you because you are 37! They grabbed me with open arms after mc the first one, so don't waste time - get cracking girl! - at least in the New Year if you have no joy by then! If you TTC for 6 months with no luck you are definitely a good candidate for the Clinic, esp as you are over 35. I can totally recommend Dr Greg Phillipson at Repromed :) I wish I had got cracking sooo many years before now, about a year after meeting DH we were engaged and started TTC and the doctor I was seeing at the time was more interested in Botox (she's now a Botox specialist!) than my medical probs with TTC and told me that she didn't conceive until she was 39 so I shouldn't worry! Grrrr I am still quite mad about that cause it was a year later I managed to conceive and then mc'd, then spent a year with a STUPID gyno in the city who just fed me Clomid and said thanks for the $80, see you in 3 months if you are not UTD... then a friend recommended Repromed and I have had 2 pg's within the last 10 months, albeit unfortunate endings but at least it gives you hope! And they test DH and yourself for EVERYTHING :)

Sorry for your loss MrsHopeful. I had two m/c. The first was at 13 wks. We hadn't been ttc and so the pg came as a bit of a shock but then I was soooo happy. DH was away at the time and I wanted to tell him in person rather than over the phone so I kept it a secret. I started to m/c the day he was coming home and day I was going for a scan. I was absolutely devastated. Melnel is right about the loss of innocence once you lose a baby - even early on. I wish I had told someone I was pg because the m/c was even more lonely when I was the only one feeling the loss.
It took me a while to convince DH we should ttc. Then BFP first month. But it never felt right and ended up m/c at 5 weeks. Tried again the next month and BFP and a healthy little boy. But I don't think I relaxed for one minute the whole pg!
I'm on 4th month of ttc #2. I was expecting to get pg again easily, so am finding the waiting frustrating. I'm getting my cycle tracked this month with blood tests to see if I'm actually ovulating. The other bonus of this is if/when I get pg they will have base levels of HCG so I'll be able to monitor the health of the pg immediately. I found that helped with sanity last time!
FX for you

I fell pg with my first DS when not trying but it took over 2 yrs to fall pg with the next but m/c at 13weeks & was told to wait 6mths before trying.
I fell pg 3mths later & was not trying, was not charting or keeping a close eye on when AF should arrive. I put it down to not trying & being stress free. I pretty much gave up on having another one, so was very happy when I did, then I fell pg when DS2 was 10mths, not trying.
We tried for 1 more hoping for a girl as we have 3 boys, & have been trying since DS3 was 6 mths, he is now 3&1/2.
I have given up on my last one, so who knows maybe it might happen.
Good luck, the dr at the hospital said to me after the m/c, at least we know you can get pg, I thought that was really cold thing to say...but he was right, & I did.
All the best.

Do you know why they told you that? Was it for medical reasons, or 'sanity' reasons? Cause they also told me the same, for 'sanity' reasons to give me time to grieve. I didn't listen, and got pg on my 2nd cycle. Even though it ended in mc, getting pg was the only thing that put the smile on my dial again. I would have gone crazy having to wait for six months without TTC! That in itself gave me focus and a goal! So you can probably guess that I am back in that same situation now

mrshopeful I was pregnant in earlier this year and m/c'd at 7 weeks, I fell pregnant again within a week or two and all is well now.
I was told to wait until af was back to normal but we couldn't wait and were fortunate enough for things to happen at the right time.
All the best with ttc, I'll have my fx for you
