Hi
I want to let everyone know about these breast pumps, as I carefully researched all the different breast pumps and found next to nothing about these ones online, except for some excellent reviews on an Aussie review site.

I was pumping exclusively with ds2 due to feeding issues (am now pumping 3 times a day and supplementing with formula). I had borrowed a hospital medela lactina and needed to buy something more heavy duty than the manual single pump I had. I was all set to spend $700 on the medela freestyle when I came across a website selling the unimom breast pumps at a fraction of the price. The single electric pump, which converts to a double pump, is only $150 and the hospital grade pump (which I bought) is only $220.

At this price I was a bit concerned about the quality, but decided it was worth the risk, and the aussie reviews helped me to decide.

I have to say that I have not been disappointed, I have had the pump for 2 months now and it has worked well for me (and survived a few knocks from the toddler). It has just as strong a sucking action as the lactina did, doesnt have the ability to slow down and speed up the suction but I find that as long as I start it on light suction it is fine, and for the difference in price (lactina costs around $1200) it is well worth it.

Hopefully this review helps someone else who needs to pump a lot and can't afford to fork out hundreds of dollars for the brand name pumps.

Thanks for this! I was looking at this type of breast pump only a few days ago and felt very hesitant on buying it. It doesn't look as pretty as the medela freestyle lol and I hadn't heard of anyone's experience with it.

Haha that's true it's not as pretty but all you really need from a pump is to get the milk from a to b (or really it's from b to b)!

I have been looking at this pump. So can you not slow down and speed up the speed of the pumping?? Because with my last pump i would start it slow and then speed it up after a few sucks otherwise it was to sore.

Hi Mumtomany

Yes you definitly can start slow and speed up. The Forte hospital grade pump has a min and max vacuum setting so which starts at 0. So you can slow turn it up until you reach the desired setting to stay on that produces regular milk flow.

The Allegro portable pump has 7 levels that you can turn it up to. I have used both and they work great.

Would anyone know if their manual breast pump is good, too? I haven't decided yet if we need one because I'll be staying at home with bub anyway (so was thinking maybe I don't =need to store milk that much?) but would like to try if expressing will work for me.

The manual pump works well and will be handy if you are not planning to use all the time. But if you are planning to use alot then electric is definitly the way to go. Takes less time to pump and you dont get a tired wrist.
The unimom manual pump is well designed with a non slip handle and doesn't leak like some other manual pumps.

For $39 it is worth buying and trying out. If you wish to to upgrade to an electric you can stick your manual on trademe (-:
