I am so mad at hubby at the moment, we are planning on moving sometime in the next 6-8mths, BUT he has a price range that he wants to stick too, because we dont know how much we will get for our house until it sells.

he has run down every suggestion/idea i have had, and frankly for the price range he has, cannons creek or wainui are the only places to look and (not to upset anyone) but i dont want to live in either of those places.

I grew up in porirua and hated it, and wainui is just to out of the way for us.

found a house that would suit us to the ground, but wont look at it cos its $10,000 outside the price range, but wont look at the most logical solution which is to put all our stuff in storage, move in with parents for 4-6mths, sell our house, then we know excatly what we can spend....arrggghhhh males, the thing that really pisses me off is that we were in this excatly place 12mths ago and we just havent moved forward at all....and now he cant understand why i am so sh*tty about it all and have got to the point where i just dont want to talk about it or look at houses or anything.

sorry about the long vent

I'd suggest looking in the property press and getting a realistic idea of what your house may sell for, and if you find something, put an agreement on it conditional on sale of your house and finance, and that way you have the ability to cancel if you don't get enough for your own house.

or getting a reg valuation on yours so you have an idea of likely sales and work with that....and who says the one listed wont take $10000 less than asking price if not more??? We got one of our houses $80000 less than asking price....pays to be cheeky!!!

Have you had an appraisal? Agents do them for free and you can get a couple for comparison purposes if you want. That's the way we went when we were starting to think about selling/buying. It also helped us know exactly who we wanted to market the property on our behalf when the time came.

yeah we have done all that....its more that kent hates stepping outside his comfort zone, but i have put my foot down and said that hes not being far to me, and that we need to start looking.

I explained that i wasnt expecting us to buy the first house, but that i wanted to look to see what is around, and if we came across a house we both liked we could cross that bridge when we came to it.

I had exactly the same thing with my DP before we brought where we are.

He wanted to spend $285,000 but I found where we are for $309,000. My argument with him was that if we stayed in our comfort zone we'ed either have to move in 3-4 years as the kids grew and we needed more room and this would cost about $10,000 in real estate fees. Or we'ed have to spend that to do up a place as most house around $285,000 need work.

My suggestion would be to workout where your financially comfortable and then where it might be a bit tighter and what would be to much money to spend. So have 3 price brackets, if that makes sense.

And maybe talk to him about why he won't compromise. I don't know your situation but if he's the one working he might feel a lot of presure if the mourgage is high and he's the one covering it.

Buying houses has got to be one of the more stressful things to do in a relationship. I'm glad we brought where we are as I don't plan on moving for ages!!! Not going through that again.

Good luck!!!
