Topic: Vitamin E capsules Posted: 13 February 2008 at 1:53pm |
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has taken the Vitamin E capsules while TTC - I know a few have so hope you see this post!
I read somewhere that DH should take them too.
Does anyone know much about it? How much to take etc?
Should we both be taking them or just me or just him!?
Totally confused
TIA

Apparently?
One of the other ladies on this forum said her midwife reccommened them to her and three other woman and three of the four of them ended up with twins!
So I did some research on the net and it seems that it is good for promoting fertility etc. There just seems to be some conflicting info re dosages etc???

Hmm, just did some research, so far I've seen that it is good for low sperm count (having to do with the antioxidants in E) and also that it helps with the production of cervical mucus as well as helping to normalize hormone production. Most things I can find recommend 400 IU daily.
I've also been told to take selenium (both men and women) and raspberry leaf tea.

This may be a totally stupid question but what is IU?
What is the difference between gms and IU?
Anyone know?

IU stands for International Unit
"International units exist in order to account for the fact that certain preparations of the same vitamin are not bioequivalent. Regardless of the preparation 1 IU will provide the same biological activity. For instance, 1 IU Vitamin E equals the biological equivalent of about 0.667 mg d-alpha-tocopherol, or of 1 mg of dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate. Though the mass of each preparation is different, the biological activity is the same." Source

Worth a shot, I might try it. HA - so much for sitting this month out. So not going to happen
Maybe that's how you're going to end up with the twins in your prediction Parki

I take 1 capsule a day at 500 IU (d-alpha-tocopherol). It's the Clinicians brand. I love the way they smell, it's like vanilla so it's the last one I take in the morning.

Ohhh they smell bearable, unlike some other vitamins!
I bought a huge value pack last night of Healtheries ones that are 500IU.
I will start taking them tonight with dinner. Its the only meal DH and I both consistantly have to take pills with! Naughty, I know!
We shall see how we go, thanks for your help

Hi Parki, it was me who said about the Vitamin E capsules, my midwife told me and yep i got pregnant with twins.
We weren't having trouble having babies ( i don't think) cause we already had Blair, just thought i would give them ago and HELLO twins.
We are TTC no 4 now but not so sure if i want to take them again. Sounds ungrateful, but we don't really want another set of twins, although if we do get another set then we would be happy with that, any pregnancy is great. :)
