Hey girls!
We have our wedding coming up Feb 5th. During the ceremony My 7 year old niece is going to read a poem but I'm having trouble finding one suitable. I was hoping to find a bunch then let her chose one. She is a very advanced reader and is great at reading aloud. Does anyone have any good links or childrens poems to share?

Wow it's a long one but it could work, very cute :) Did your niece read the whole thing?

She got nervous and was chickening out, so her step nana (my mum) helped out and they took turns reading a line each (or verse each maybe?).

What a great day for a wedding! (That's our wedding anniversary )

Last year I was at a wedding where the bride's niece read from part of the Velveteen Rabbit, the part where the Skin Horse is talking about how when someone loves you for a long time you become real. I could hunt it out if google doesn't turn it up for you

Or how about "Love is a Handful of Honey" by Giles Andreae? (He's the guy who did "Rumble in the Jungle" etc)

Love is that high-flying feeling that makes you leap out of your bed.
Love is what makes you throw open the curtains and somersault 'round on your head.

Love is that warm cozy feeling, a cuddle that tells you you're sweet.
And love is that feeling of laughing out loud when somebody tickles your feet.

Love is skipping out in the morning and hoping the day never ends.
And love's what you feel when you all get together and go on adventures with friends.

Love's when you hide in the forest in places that nobody knows.
Love is that fluttery feeling you feel when a butterfly flies on your toes.

Love is a handful of honey and love's making friends with the bees,
even the flowers are bursting with love, when they're dancing about in the breeze.

And then when your stomachs are grumbly, love is unwrapping your treats,
and love's stuffing everything all in at once, leaving masses of mess on your cheeks.

Love is splish-splashing through puddles and love's getting soaked in the rain.
Love is a rainbow that bursts through the sky when the sun begins shining again.

Love's when you can't stop describing just what you've been doing all day,
and love is when somebody quietly listens to everything you've got to say.

Love is a great bedtime story that takes you to faraway lands,
and love's when you want to show someone you care so you snuggle up and hold hands.

Love's looking out of the window to wave at the man in the moon,
and love's when you whisper goodnight to the stars who'll be watching you dream very soon.

And then when you're tired and sleepy, and you're cozily tucked up all tight,
Love is that last little cuddle and kiss that helps you sleep safe through the night.

edited cos I noticed a typo

What about "Guess how much I love you"?

Little Nutbrown Hare was going to bed held on tight to Big Nutbrown Hare’s very long ears. He wanted to be sure that Big Nutbrown Hare was listening.

“Guess how much I love you” he said.

“I don’t think I could guess that” said Big Nutbrown Hare.

“This much” said Little Nutbrown Hare stretching out his arms as wide as he could go.

Big Nutbrown Hare have even longer arms. “But I love you this much” he said.

“Hmmm. That’s a lot” thought Little Nutbrown Hare

“I love you as high as I can reach” said Little Nutbrown Hare.

“I love you as high as I can reach” said Big Nutbrown Hare.

“That is very high” thought Little Nutbrown Hare. “I wish I had arms like that”

Then Little Nutbrown Hare had a good idea. He tumbled upside down then reached up the tree trunk with his feet. “I love you all the way up to my toes” he said.

“And I love you up to your toes” said Big Nutbrown Hare swinging him up over his head.

“I love you as I high as I can hop” laughed Little Nutbrown Hare, bouncing up and down.

“But I love you as high as I can hop” smiled Big Nutbrown Hare---and he hopped so high that his ears touched the branches above.

“That’s good hopping”, thought Little Nutbrown Hare. “I wish I could hop like that”.

“I love you all the way down the lane as far as the river”, cried Little Nutbrown Hare.

“I love you across the river and over the hills”, said Big Nutbrown Hare.

“That’s very far,” thought Little Nutbrown Hare. He was almost too sleepy to think anymore. Then he looked beyond the thornbushes, out into the big dark night. Nothing could be farther than the sky.

“I love you right up to the moon” he said and closed his eyes.

“Oh that’s far,’ said Big Nutbrown Hare. “That’s very, very far”

Big Nutbrown Hare settled Little Nutbrown Hare into his bed of leaves. He leaned over and kissed him goodnight. Then he laid down close by and whispered with a smile. “I love you right up to the moon---and back”.

I found a really cute reading by A.A. Milne when I was looking for readings for our wedding. We didn't use it because my 20-something brother was doing the reading and it seemed wrong but I will try find it again and post it, it was really lovely.

ETA - OK found it - it's just "Us Two" about Christopher Robin and Pooh ... but I think it's CUTE ... it would have suited DH and I, but really depends on you guys and the rest of your ceremony IYGWIM

Us Two by A A Milne (from Now We Are Six)

Wherever I am, there's always Pooh,
There's always Pooh and Me.
Whatever I do, he wants to do,
"Where are you going today?" says Pooh:
"Well, that's very odd 'cos I was too.
Let's go together," says Pooh, says he.
"Let's go together," says Pooh.

"What's twice eleven?" I said to Pooh.
("Twice what?" said Pooh to Me.)
"I think it ought to be twenty-two."
"Just what I think myself," said Pooh.
"It wasn't an easy sum to do,
But that's what it is," said Pooh, said he.
"That's what it is," said Pooh.

"Let's look for dragons," I said to Pooh.
"Yes, let's," said Pooh to Me.
We crossed the river and found a few-
"Yes, those are dragons all right," said Pooh.
"As soon as I saw their beaks I knew.
That's what they are," said Pooh, said he.
"That's what they are," said Pooh.

"Let's frighten the dragons," I said to Pooh.
"That's right," said Pooh to Me.
"I'm not afraid," I said to Pooh,
And I held his paw and I shouted "Shoo!
Silly old dragons!"- and off they flew.

"I wasn't afraid," said Pooh, said he,
"I'm never afraid with you."

So wherever I am, there's always Pooh,
There's always Pooh and Me.
"What would I do?" I said to Pooh,
"If it wasn't for you," and Pooh said: "True,
It isn't much fun for One, but Two,
Can stick together, says Pooh, says he. "That's how it is," says Pooh.

Could someone perhaps help her to write one? My dd was 9 when I got married and my (very musical) sister helped her to write a song which she sung at our wedding.

Just a thought....

Otherwise some of the others have posted some really cute poems.

All the best for your big day :-)
