Topic: Weird clicking sound Posted: 10 February 2010 at 12:31pm |
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before? Last night bubs was kicking vigorously, when I suddenly heard this strange, loud clicking type sound. First I was unsure whether it had come from inside me, but a few kicks later it happened again while I was looking at my bump. So freaky! I was too scared to move for a few minutes, thinking my waters must have broken, but there's been no leakage thank goodness (so not ready to have this baby yet!). I've tried googling and found the following .... anyone know of a better explanation??
What is that strange clicking sound?
Occasionally a pregnant woman will describe a distinctive 'click' or 'pop' coming from inside her uterus, usually when her baby is moving during middle to late pregnancy. This is not very common, but we have been asked this question by a few women over the years during the course of them sharing their experiences.
The 'clicking' phenomenon is not documented in midwifery or obstetric text books. Therefore it is hard to know what really causes it. One plausible explanation may be that the baby's joints are rubbing or 'clicking' as they move, but we cannot be certain. In our experience, women who have noticed 'clicking' have gone on to have healthy, normal babies. Therefore we do not think it is anything to be concerned about. Perhaps it will just remain one of those strange mysteries of pregnancy?

I get it occasionally since maybe 28-30 weeks, My mw thought that it might've just been my tailbone clicking, but she wasn't sure and wasn't concerned by it. She said to let her know though if I had any pain or water leakage, in which case she'd give me a check up.

Hmm, definitely not my tailbone - the sound came from just to the right of my belly button lol . Glad your MW isn't concerned about it - was in two minds whether to phone mine, but decided against it.

I had that with DS. It ws often located just above my belly button. My MW didn't know what it was either. I put it down to either DS joints clicking or him pushing against something suddenly. It is strange to hear thought, DP heard it sometimes as well.

Yep - I had that too! It was definitely DS, not me. DH could hear it as well. Sounded kind of like the noise you make when you flick your fingernails together...
My MW had never heard of it either. I think I posted on here when it happened, and other people said they'd had it too, so I find it really weird that no-one seems to know what causes it!
My guess is it was his joints or something - he's quite a clicky baby now...

I had that clicking sound as well with Jackson. It was during the 3rd trimester and I put it down to his joints clicking. Sometimes I hear his wrists and shoulders clicking now and it reminds me of the sound I heard while I was pregnant.

Oh good, glad to hear this has happened to a few people. Still seems very bizarre though . Will be interesting to see whether Leah turns out to have clicky joints.

oooooo freaky! this hasn't happenned to me yet, and cant say i've ever heard of it! sorry for completely irrelevant post, and distinct lack of advice.... I just quite like to hear of random things with pregnancy! It's obviously nothing to be worried about
I'd think of it as yet another way to bond with your beautiful bubs before they are born, not only can you feel them but hear them too!!!
