Topic: What to wear during labour Posted: 17 January 2009 at 9:50pm |
What did you wear whilst giving birth or what are you planning to?
Not that I am in a rush but saw one dress on a website as labour dress. Then just started thinking. One more thing to worry

I wore trackpants and a singlet at home - even though it was winter our house was well heated so I didn't need much.
At hospital I wore a hospital gown in the delivery suite, but took that off to hop in the birthing pool - so in essence, nothing!
I haven't really thought about it for this time, but as we are planning to stay at home I'll probably just start out in whatever I am wearing - and end up naked again in the birthing pool.

i originally planned to wear one of DP's shirts because it was very light and could open down the front and was way too big for me so it covered everything i thought it should cover. in the end i didn't care what was covered and just stripped off and wore nothing lol.

Right.
Clothes will be the last thing your'e thinking of when your in labour .
just make sure you bring a change of clothes (especially underwear) to wear after the baby is born .....

And if you're not comfy being in the nud (i'm not a person who walks around naked) then use a hospital gown. Anything you have is going to be ruined and I seriously doubt we are going to care what we look like at the time lol.
I went and got some light cotton button up PJ's from Kmart ($19.95) to wear afterwards. Cheap but comfy. Didn't get the expensive ones as they still might get blood on them and I can just throw them out after. I bought the cheap nana undies from the warehouse ( black cotton) too. All the ladies have told me not to spend money as a good chunk of it will get thrown away. I've spent all up less than $100 on three pairs of PJ's for hospital and about 12 pairs of undies (usually a G string person).

im thinking of a large sarong (sp?) you can wrap it round under your boobs, open it down the front, around your waist etc... its easy to take on and off and doesnt matter if it gets detroyed during the process

well, I was VERY sure that i did not want to be naked in labour. I wore track pants and a singlet while in labour then when i got to middlemore I put on a gown and I staryed in that until like 3 days after he was born lol, then I managed to get up and have a shower(I had an emergency C Section so wasnt very mobile for a while).

Hospital gowns are great. Doesn't matter how much blood or whatever gets on it because you don't have to clean it. They cover you up if you don't like being in the nud and they are nice an airy so you don't get hot. I lived in them while I was in hospital because I didn't want to do the washing!

I can certainly imagine the attraction of the gowns if you had a C section Sheza. Who would want the pressure of a waist band around your middle after that!!

Ditto the hospital gowns! I lived in them for 3 days afterward too - I bled really heavily, so it didn't matter if they got soiled (though it made DH go pale ). After several weeks of only just squeezing into my maternity clothes, the hospital gowns were bliss. I can see why my mother lived in tents (supposedly dresses) when she was pregnant!

Yep, hospital gown here too.
I was all prepared to wear a long loose top I brought with me, as our antenatal class leader was one of those 'don't wear the gown, you're not sick, you're not a patient' types.
But when I got there, my midwife handed me a hospital gown and it turned out I really wasn't in any mood to dig around in my bag for the other. It was nice just being able to ditch it after too!

She told you not to wear the gown? That's really weird. Our teacher said to use as much of the hospital stuff as possible including their laundry service. She said scrubbing blood etc out of our own clothes would be the last thing on our minds.

Im planning on wearing a hospital gown too because theres nothing else that would cover the bump at this stage. We were told the same thing about using everything at the hospital (including being told to take home any maternity pads we could find to save us buying them )

Her labour?
hell , she was getting out of her clothes in the HALLWAY of the hospital , seriously , you are in your own world in labour, when i was in labour Johnny Depp , Brad Pitt and George Clooney could have walked in and I wouldn't have even noticed.

I was in DH's tshirt and my trackpants when I was in labour. It was midnight when we got to Birthcare so no one was around to see me, it was just my MW DH and me through my whole labour and birth so I didn't mind what was exposed. I ended up in just a bra, and even afterwards in my room I stayed in a bra and knickers in bed until I went home 4 hours post birth.
I went and bought heaps of nanny knickers, but didn't wear a single pair lol.

danaj - i just thought i would say that i bought a "button down" pj set from kmart thinking that would be perfect for feeding and turned out the buttons were pretend GRRR. didnt' discover this till after bubs was born. During labour i wore nothing. Jumped out of the shower and mum goes want to put this top on and i said no. It was WAY.... to got in the delivery room. Do take something warm for straight afterwards like a jersey. I got very cold as soon as id given birth - something to do with shock.
