 Topic: What trike do you like?

I'm not spending heaps, less than $50 on special is good as I just can't justify the expense. I've looked on TM but there's bugger all 2nd hand ones in our area that are any good.
What trikes do you have for your 2-3yo's and up? What should I look for? Am hoping there'll be some nice sales at Labour weekend!

oohh, thanks for starting this emz  . We are getting Sophie a trike for Christmas (big sister is getting a glide2ride) and I haven't seen many yet. Will be watching with interest

Don't buy the kitset ones from the Warehouse! I got Sam one with Thomas the Tank Engine on it over six months ago and the physics of it are awful, no amount of pushing on those pedals can he get them to turn around and he is big for his age and strong. I think it's the angle that they are on. It's been a waste as he doesn't really play with it at all because sitting on the seat and walking with it isn't really much fun. Good thread too as I am looking at getting him another one that is relatively cheap for Christmas.

Yeah we looked at the warehouse ones but they just didnt' seem as sturdy as the ones we had as kids (and they were cheap ones lol)
I wonder what Kmart has and what quality they are?

Jaycee the G2R is on special at farmers for $50 down from $180. We bought Michaela a G2R last Christmas - we love it!

hehe Mrs Mojo - I just just moaning about that in the Jan & Feb 08 thread! I bought it in the last sale for $80, which I thought was a great deal! Oh well!! Does your DD still like her bike? I remember when you said last year that you had bought it.

The triang trikes are awesome Emz, really sturdy and well made, not sure about the price though? Z got given one for his 2nd birthday and its still going strong for his bros to use, you can also get trailers for them

triang- around $150. I must admit though, we have two trikes, one triang and one kettler-type from pedal pushers - $190. the triang gets thrashed and is still in great condition and going strong. the kettler-type one is in great condition, but taine doesn't like it as much....we plan to sell on trademe in a few months.
i recommend a second hand triang.

Join your local toy library, hopefully they will have a few different trikes so you can try before you buy.
We borrowed a Kettler one - they are expensive but fantastic quality and have a handle on the back so adult can push as well. If I was going to buy one that's what I'd get.

$80 is still a great deal Jaycee. Michaela loves her bike! She's still using it in glide mode so we haven't put the pedals on yet. She still has years of use left in it. One thing you will need tho, if you haven't already got one, is a bike pump.

Our toy library's trikes are always out which is a pain. Hmm can't believe trikes are so expensive, am a bit worried now as we have a $50 limit on bdays and xmas and already have xmas sorted so can't do a joint pressie. Oh well I'm sure TM will be kind at some point. Failing that I'm sure we can put a word in the ears of the grandparents

Don't know what the Glide to Rides are like (or age group) but they had them on special at Farmers over the weekend (and probably this week) for $49.

G2R seem to be for older kids, and apparently there are none left in Chch anyway (according to farmers yesterday as I overheard a lady asking about more when she bought the display model).
I think I've found a 2nd hand triang (old style looking) with trailer. Dh seems keen too, just have to repaint as its pink

Emz, i got one from Farmers. I think it was $50-60. It def wasn't more than that and Mac loves it. It has the removeable handle thing at the back so you can push him round. He is quite short in the legs so can only just reach the pedals but we often use it to push him round.

Mocka also do a version(cheaper) of this balance bike and have a video of a wee girl playing around on one. As a biking household we are going to definately look into one of these later on. I think it makes sense to get balance first before adding pedals.
