Topic: Whitening kits Posted: 29 January 2008 at 10:41pm |
I can't afford to go to the dentist to get my teeth whitened so thought of buying a tooth whitening kit.
It comes with gel and mouth guards and one even comes with a plasma light.
Can anyone give me advice on whether these work or are safe please
TIA

the ones you get from the supermarket arent the best ones unfortunatly, mainly because they are one size fits all and everyones teeth are different shapes and sizes ,so not all teeth will be covered properly .
Dentists do two types of whitening, laser whitning , which is good if you want instant results, and a similar one to the take home kits, where they make you a mouth guard fitted exactly to your teeth (cos they take impressions of them) and they give you the gel to put in them you wear them for 8 hours a day (so usually when you sleep) and results are within 5 days, there are a few, colgate does one, the reason the dentists are better is because the mouth guards are made to fit your teeth and because the dentists are legally allowed to give a higher dose of the whitening agent than the supermarkets can .
Its more expensive initially but lasts longer-when the gel runs out you just by more and as long as you maintain your teeth by cleaing, not drinking too many drinks that stain etc it lasts at least 2 years.
And nothing will whiten fillings btw, if you have fillings in your front teeth best to get the rest of the teeth to the shade you want then get your dentist to replace them .
( i work in a dentist btw so feel free to pm me if you want to know anything else :-) )

yah, most dentists the laser kit is $1000 and the take home kit is about $400, some times its on special tho.
I had both done (perk of the job haha) and I personally thought the take home one was better , and better value for money long term
