Hi

My daughter is 8 months old, she is completly fed breast milk and has always been a good feeder. She has taken expressed breast milk when I cannont be there right from 2 weeks old from the bottle with no problems until a month ago when she has decided to completly refuse to drink from the bottle. Ive tried a couple of different bottles and trying to get her to drink from a sippy cup. She will hold off all day until I get home and them hapily drink from me.... Shes started solids but shes not a big eater.
The expressed milk is usually frozen, but doesnt seem to make any difference if it is freshly expressed

Do you have any sugestions?

Have you tried a cup with a straw some babies prefer them to a sippy cup.

Can't offer much other help as my bf daughter quit the bottle at 9 months and never went back she'd have water from a cup/bottle and only milk from me.

My son would never take a bottle at all but he did take to the MAM bottles/teats. He now has formula in the evening from a MAM bottle. They told me because he was over 12 months and breastfed to give him the fastest flow teat but it was too quick for him, he now happily uses the number 2 teat. I'm always the preference though!

Ive now discovered that my milk tastes terrible (like vomit) unless its fresh. Not sure if I might have to much lipase in my milk or a storage problem. http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/lipase-expressedmilk/
I defrosed some of my frozen stuff and it tastes terrible, I tried scalding some milk and it has stayed ok.
But she wont let the bottle near her mouth to even try it! Probally associates it with the horrible taste...

My tricks from DS who refused a bottle even when I had no milk. I tried them all

Try feeding her when shes asleep till she gets used to the bottle again. I used the 10pm feed. (This is the trick that worked best for us!)

Try a bit of boob to take the edge of her hunger then try slipping the bottle in. this one took a few tries to trick DS.

Stick to one bottle when trying tho, otherwise its too many changes.

Given shes used to take the bottle there is hope she will go back to it.

Good luck.

Hi

I'm having the same problem, my little girl has decided she likes breast milk and nothing else will do...direct from source thanks! However she is a little monkey so she will start feeding from the bottle, have about 30mls and then just stop and wait until I come back from wherever I have been, she then seems to sense Im home and wakes up wailing for a feed...very clever and very annoying!

I tried to see if she would perhaps like some formula or some goats milk, formula she spat at me and looked at me like I was trying to poison her, goats milk she liked but again only 30 mls and then wanted a breastfeed. I love breastfeeding and am not trying to quit but I do not like expressing so would be nice if she would take some formula or something else so I could go to my regular Thursday volunteering...any suggestions? I am going to try a MAM teat and will see if that helps!
