My maternity leave payments started when i reached my due date and i get the full amount which is paid fortnightly $630 something. I finished at 34 weeks and used holiday pay and savings until my payments started. Come april i am going to go for WFF as in the new financial year i will be entitled to a weekly payment as its based on yearly earnings so with neither of us working at this stage until i go back to work which will make my earnings really low i think we should be entitled to about $310 a week (based on the calculators) then i think we just keep informing them if our situation changes and we earn more or less ie if DP decides to work again so i assume they will adjust the payments as it suits.
My advise is if you are entitled to Maternity Leave take it then go for Working for Families when it runs out. |
That WFF number sounds pretty off - You only get the in-work payment if someone is working 30+ hours a week, and that's $120 per fortnight, and the tax credit is $164 per fortnite, so if I understand you're not working that's only $82 per week... even if you add in accomodation supplement, it still wouldn't add up to $310. You can only get the $150 a week payment for 8 weeks, and i'm not sure if you can get it if you are on Maternity leave.
I hate the ird/winz sites - they're really hard to find your way around.. but it's worth double checking so you don't end up with a nasty surprise right? Plus if you earn a decent income in the later part of the year and go over the thresholds you'll end up owing them money. |
I agree. I have a 'low' income as I claim expenses against it, and DP is on a lowish income, and we only get $196 per week and that's with 3 kids. |
I think she means PPL not WFF.. I got that amount for PPL. We get nothing from WFF this past year, can't wait for april so we can finally get something.

I mean WFF as if i am the only one that goes back to work in december when my maternity leave finishes my total income including the couple of weeks of parental leave i will get early april is very small around $11000 therefore it said my weekly payments from IRD will be high. Either way it doesnt worry me cos i have to ring them anyway and find out what the deal is if that changes etc. If only i work a full year i would be entitled to about $89 a week but as thats not the case the website implies i can get that higher amount for the full year as long as my income doesnt alter.

and the sucky thing is you have to wait till next tax year to adjust payments.. ..you arent supposed to get ML more than 6 weeks before..you are supposed to legally take 8 weeks after bubs is born.. but i guess your mw or someone could arrange it for earlier.. in my case(finished work at 20 weeks) you have no option but to take the parental tax credit..which is what people who arent entitled to ML like me have to take to get any money..which annoys the crap outta me.... ..after 8 weeks we get 15 dollars a week..(even though i havent worked in 6 months:(

I would ring them to find out for sure as that seems like alot of money for WFF. I have 3kids a single mother and I dont get that much. I also work over 20hrs per week and recieve the inwork payment which you wouldnt be eliglble for since you or your partner arent working more than 30hrs per week.

I would be usually working 40 hours a week which is what it stated on the site so i just based my answers on that. I am going to ring them anyway cos there is alot on the site that doesnt make any sense but hey any loophole that benefits a family has to be good. Ill pass on any good shortcuts if i find any out

Ring them, they are really good as they are able to tell you what entitlements you are eligible for and you can apply for these to start over the phone.
