we had our daughter's first birthday party on saturday I sent the invites out about a month before.

the invite said 12pm for a bbq..so people started arrived around 11:30-12pm..at about 12:30pm I texted my dad to see how far away he way.

he calls me about 5 minutes later to say they are nearly in Cambridge and will probably be there closer to 3pm. He said something about doing shopping..him and my step mum were staying the night in Hamilton so why cant they do their shopping tomorrow..I was like wtf..3pm hello the bbq started at 12pm and it is a 1 year olds party and other people did need to get back home before it started getting dark. and I did want everyone there when she was eating her cake

I tell you I was nearly in tears come 1pm so I mentioned it to my husband who just said to text him back. finally my dad calls me about 1:30pm to tell me he is stuck at a checkout and wil be there in 30 minutes max so finally he gets here about 2pm..it would have been nicer if he had gotten here a bit earlier..I wasn't expecting people to show up at 12pm on the dot half an hour I could understand but 2 hours grrr..

ok vent over

Yup it would! But is this something your Dad normally does?
We've a couple of family members who keep their own time, and so we just expect them to turn up when ever. Its annoying but can't do much about it.

Oh...I would have killed my Dad!! And he knows it too!! ...I would have told him to not bother coming...turn around and go back home!!

I had a similar thing on my baby shower...My mum and Aunty came on time but then just when I was about to start games...they dissapeared!!! OooOohhhh....I was mad!!!!

I started the games any way and thought "if they say any thing about not waiting for them....I would give them a piece of my mind...(thank God I can speak Russian...I could scream at them and no one would know)...But they came back and said nothing!! Lucky them!!

wow - I would have been spitting tacks. I hate being late (I am usually really early ) I think that if an event has a time specified then you better have a REALLY good reason for being late.

If your wicked step mother is anything like mine, it was probably her fault (esp as there was shopping involved).

Very rude.

I'd be annoyed too but some people are just unreliable so you have to work around it.

Some people are always late so I usually give them a different start time.

Other people decide on the day if they are coming or not, making it hard to cater. I don't usually invite them a second time, once they've done this.

I wouldn't expect my Dad to be one of the unreliable ones though.

my parents are generally late for everything .... probably where i get it from.

but they would never be late for the kids birthday parties.......and if they were going to be that late, i'd tell them not to bother as it would be all over!!
