Topic: Would you be annoyed to hear... Posted: 08 January 2009 at 3:19pm |
that your 7 year old had been playing R18 video games at his friends house?? We went to the video shop the other day to get some vids and a PS2 game for DS, anyway he says "I played a really cool one at **** house mum, I'll go and find it". So he comes back with Grand theft auto! I was sooo not impressed, I wouldnt let him view that kind of rubbish at home and I wonder why his 7 year old friend was allowed to play it? Now I have never actually viewed this game but the lady at the vid shop said it is definetly not appropriate for children and when it came out it caused all sorts of trouble because of the violence etc etc.

It's amazing the types of games kids these days are playing!. My nephew is 6 now but has been playing wrestling games since about 4yo...which I think is violent..even though I know it's not real!!. I would be annoyed as I've played GTA before....not San Andreas..which I think was the one with all the controversy. And the main character can hook up with prostitutes, kill people etc etc. I for one will probably not have a PS or anything like that in the house when DS gets older. But yea if you're kinda close to the kid's mother maybe ask her if she knows what the games about and what it's teaching her son...and yours.

Thanks Eva, I know what you mean, some of the games are just rubbish. It was a hand me down from my sister, I got it mainly for singstar but DS is allowed to get games in the holidays We havent had any problems with inappropriate games as yet as he always chooses star wars lego lol!

I would be. My brother let Janaya play that, and I was not impressed. She was raving about how she learnt how to break into cars and bash people

Def not for kids!!
Similar thing happened with my nephew with a game called Doom (this was a few years ago and Doom was the big violent game at the time). We had to ban him from playing it as he started acting out the game at school and pretending to kill the other kids.
It DOES effect them and from what i've heard, GTA is quite a violent game. The other kids mother should no better and I would be p*ssed if my kid was exposed to it.

I'd be pretty upset (and angry!).
Does Z's friend have older siblings?
Would he be playing it on the sly?
Or do you think the Mum knows about it?
Perhaps have a quiet word to her about it (depending on your relationship with her).
She may not even know her boy is playing it, too.

Definitely. I used to play the original GTA when it was first out on the PC and that was bad enough. The whole point of the game was to shoot and/or run over people and to do jobs for different gangs. The more cars you steal and people you run over or shoot the more points you get and the best part was to try and bring out the National Guard by causing as many accidents and killing as many people (especially cops) as you could, it was even possible to firebomb the police station- and each version of the game has gotten more and more violent.
It's R18 for a reason, and while I can see someone letting their 16yo play it no way for a 7yo.
