I know right, it's bad enough we have to pay 70k a year for them to be in jail, but now we have to pay for IVF and presumably the DBP for his partner who's a solo parent until he gets out. Meanwhile folk like us who are in good jobs that can provide a stable, secure place for a child get limited funding.
Any who thanks for the tip, how does funding work? Do you get a set amount and just choose how you use it? Or do you have to go with whatever scheme they pick? How many tries do you get? All the articles I've read say that for severe Endo going straight to IVF is the best option so hopefully they don't make me muck around! The Endo appears to be growing at an alarmingly fast rate.

Hi Nicsa,

Funding is paid from the DHB to the clinic you are allocated. It's then used for whatever treatment is appropriate for you - the clinic basically claims off the DHB. You go with the treatment plan they prescribe, though they do listen to you if there is any particular reasons for doing one protocol or the other. Up to two rounds of IVF get funded. Funding includes ICSI if needed, and also the transfer of all embryos created in the cycle (if you end up with any in the freezer).
You can use funding to also do IUI, but it's unlikely they'll recommend that. You get 4 rounds of IUI with one lot of funding (so lose one funded round of IVF).

Be warned - waiting lists for IVF are very long - up to two years depending on what part of the country you are in - so brace yourself for a wait! (Think wait time in Chch is around a year, but things change)

I would definitely pay for an appointment to get yourself scored for funding. We did all our treatment privately to get it done, then waited for the public funding for IVF to kick in before we could do IVF (which we're in the middle of - just waiting till next cycle and I can do my first transfer).

ok,have scan and bloods this week and hopefully if that all goes well then FET n sept 17th. Been taking estrogen pills for a week now and was feeling pretty relaxed about it all.Bascially after lastime (ivf injectins etc) I had decied to just take the pills and try to pretend nothing was happening. I have been keeping a normal routine and this has worked heaps, and just poping a pill is easier than the injecions(though i shouldnt complain about that, it was bad) until yesterday where I all of a sudden like a tidal wave have been hit with emotion. I feel anxious and a little teary!! This is big for me as i am not a PMT girl, yeah i know its the pills and am taking it in my stride. Just wondering if anyone else ended up feeling like that? WE have two frozen embies and have decided to only put one in this time. Last time we put two in and I ended up with a blighted ovum so thought let's do something different and fear that if it doesnt work then thats it. All of a sudden I have been hit with fear that this is the wrong thing to do. I am turning forty and just want the best chance of success. What was everyones thoughts on the put one or two eggs in?

kiwi we always wanted to put 2 in but we're never allowed! But really one healthy baby is all you need! I also had a blighted ovum last year. I found an ivf meditation cd really helpful to calm myself and think positively after transfer and during the 2 week wait... Let me know if you'd be interested in a copy of it and I would be happy to send it to you... I put it onto my phone and listened to it each night, and during the day if I was feeling anxious... Good luck xx

That progynova (I assume that's what you're on) is a biarch! Does my head in so bad I'm avoiding taking them (they're supposed to be part of the Colorado protocol which I'm in but dr said I can leave them out). Be gentle with yourself.
As for 2 we um and ahh about that too, but the science doesn't say your chances increase because there's 2 on there together (apparently they don't hold hands and cheer each other on unfortunately) it's just you're using 2 chances at once - so what ever way you choose will be the right choice, and hopefully the sticky choice xo

Stims and buserilin and making their presence known for me now, hopefully that means lots of nice follies are growing.

Thanks guys! yeah I think we will keep with putting one in and then it wont feel like all our eggs in basket (excuse the pun) and we can avoid the big "what now" question if it doesnt work.

DH is full of the cold and I am trying to avoid catching that! As for the emotions I am trying to keep them in check, Thanks for the offer of the CD, you have reminded me that I have a mediation one in the cupboard so I will drag that out.

CrafteaChic, I have my fingers and toes crossed your follies are growing well and in abundance!

As for me, I think I will try and keep myself busy so the next week or so goes past fast..
Another question with the injections I got big boobs and bloated, with progynova and prostreston am I expected to feel any physical effects or is it just a bit of being a little emotional and moments of vagueness(todays was forgetting how to start ur keyless car)

Circle & bloom have some good fertility MP3 meditations too if you want to check them out (they're designed to follow your cycle)

Ah yeah I've got th bloating and big boobs going on - clothes are not very comfortable at the mo! I got cramping and lower abdominal aches from the progesterone, and the mix of both gave me a bit of constipation (sorry tmi!) - for me tho progyniva was mostly a head f@$k....I became duper good at crying at anything and everything, and quite irritable too. Hope it doesn't get any worse for you! I've found I do better with less sugar/carbs, and making sure I keep up some exercise thought out. Keeping busy and making less time to think are good plans.

Yay for having an appointment. You could ask about the Colorado protocol tho they Don't tend to bring that in til later if you haven't had success.

Hi georgee- I'm interested to know how long you've had to wait to get seen in Dunedin? Have you already been 'scored' and already eligible for public? My reason for asking is I'm in a similar position... TTC 3yrs in Jan, HSG, laproscopy/hysteroscopy showed mild endo, privately paid for 2 IVF's (via loans as was sooo frustrated by public system) looks like egg quality issue... yet have been told we won't be seen under public until middle of 2016. I'm 39 (40 in April). Hoping that they sort their systems out quickly as it seems mean that some are possibly missing out on an opportunity for being a Mummy just because of a change of system.

Trying - not sure if it's different, but in Auckland you can just pay privately for an appointment to be scored. Once you scored with enough points, you go on the waiting list. As long as you are on the list before 40 then you are eligable (does not matter how old you are when your number is called). Don't wait for a public funded appointment for scoring, just on the list for IVF.
We had the changeover in Auckland, and whilst we had no idea how long the waiting list was while the changeover was happening (got scored Feb last year, got allocated July this year for treatment, and told of that July last year - no word for months after scoring).

Thanks Mushroom. Good to know once you've been scored and become eligible that you don't lose out from that point even if you turn 40. Wish I could stop the biological clock ticking on my egg quality too! Hadn't realised Auckland went through same take over- sounds like it took a while to get on top of the backlog for them. Thanks again!

Hey trying, did you manage to get an appt to get scored? In my experience the wait for an appt at OFS has been 2-4 weeks if you're paying privately. Once I got scored and got on the IVF wait list in April we only had to wait until Nov for treatment which I thought was pretty good! Only found out in October though as they couldn't tell us anything until the change to FA had been made and damn it was hard not knowing and just 'hoping' they had me on the list! Has been all good since we got started though.
TTC#1 from 2013. Stage 2 endometriosis removed. IVF #1: 1x BFN, 1x CP. natural BFP - DD born Dec 2016.
TTC#2: FET Feb 2018: BFN. 9x letrozole all BFN. IVF Feb 2019: BFN.

Hi and thanks for reply! Always good to know how others are finding the change from OFS to FA in Dunedin. Turns out our last private egg collection showed although I have lots of egg stores, that they are of very poor quality- none made it overnight after collection, all were abnormal. So... At least I have an answer of sorts as to why we haven't been getting pregnant naturally OR via IVF (2 rounds, 2 transfers in first round). Has been an expensive way of finding out :/. Had a breakdown 2 weeks ago after finding out last IVF round results - I'm usually so rational- and haven't made a total comeback yet.

In terms of public service- we have been scored for Dunedin as you know in May 2015- eligible as of 1 Jan 2016 -although since last private round we have had contact to say it will most likely be delayed due to change over until mid/late next year. Was hoping we may get re-scores since they now have a 'reason' which thy didn't have before. Sort of feel that I should step-aside as by the time they see me there is SO little possibility any eggs are ok (another year down the track!) and I should be letting some other people take our a slot.

As you mention- life seems on hold for the last few years, and now for another year. I have had to turn down so many opportunities of work and other to 'wait'.

Sometimes I can't wait until I'm 45 and all of this is behind me. I know it's not good to wish away your life, but sometimes it just feels too much.

Really wish you well and hope the treatment is going ok for you. Baby dust to you!!!
