I would take nappies just in case, I know they do supply them but probably best to be safe with a few anyway (I think I just put 3 or 4 in there - good use of the sample packs we got!)
Yeah, when I was in hospital last Tuesday I was txting my mum from the birthing suite no probs. They have signs up if you're not allowed to use them, so you will know.

Yes they do supply nappies and maternity pads. I think they come round in the morning and you grab what you need. I would still be inclined to take some just in case you run out and dont feel like asking. You will need to take your own breast pads and baby wipes as I dont think they supply them (our hospital anyway).
Yep, phones are fine and if you are lucky some hospitals let your partner stay.
Sally, maybe you could try floradix? It is quite expensive but it is very good.

Topsy, will your hospital let your partner stay? I don't know about the one I'm giving birth at but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

I know mine doesn't, not Chch Womens or St George's. Apparently it's not very common unless you go to a birthing centre which I'm not. Although... DH had a very comfortable sleep on the lazyboy in the birthing suite at Womens last week - that man can sleep anywhere and make it look like bliss!

Yes partners can stay. They have only allowed this recently and they have to either sleep in the chair or a mattress on the floor. I think it is a good idea and all hospitals should do it. It must be hard to give birth, be all emotional, exhausted and then left by yourself in a room over night. I think I would sit there in tears not knowing what to do!!! He will probably just stay one night though.

That's good news Topsy. I'm sure your partner would much rather be with his 2 girls than home alone feeling completely helpless anyway.
I can't wait to start antenatal classes in 2 weeks time. I feel like I need some of the info they teach NOW! When do yours finish Topsy? Can't be too much longer.

Morning girls, I've had a nice start to my day today. My friend who is organising my baby shower sent out the invites last night & 2 hours later my Dad had emailed to say he'd booked flights for Mum to come up for it (she lives in Timaru, me in Auckland). I wasn't expecting her to come at all so it' was a great surprise.
Other than that it's business as usual. I've now been taking my iron pills just before I go to bed & that seems to have helped a lot. I feel pretty good again hope you all do too.

Pleased you are feeling good tho, Sally. I have been 100% and am loving the holidays but must say its amazing how the less you do the more tired you feel.

Mine is on 3 November & is going to be an afternoon tea thing at my friend's place. So it'll be pretty low key & not sure if there'll be games or not. I wasn't too fussed on having one but since my friend offered I thought why not.
Are you having one Peanut?

A friend of ours had his baby on Saturday 5 weeks early - apparently during labour the doctor said 'just do what you learnt in antenatal classes', she screamed 'I only went to 2! I have no idea what I'm doing!' Classic! But also a bit scary I guess for her.
Apparently I'm having a baby shower if someone actually organises it, I refuse to organise my own as that's not what you do. I presume it'll be at my mums or my place, kind of wouldn't want it here though.
Just been to see the m/w - she made me wait for 45 minutes as she was running late already then took another woman who is further along than I am first (she turned up just before the m/w came out and I'd already been waiting 20 minutes). Not happy with her at all. And she didn't have any of my notes from when I was in hospital last week. I kind of have a feeling that she's incompetent until the actual labour part, which doesn't gel with me at all. Ok, rant over!!

I just saw on stuff.co.nz that Nicole Richie has been craving dog biscuits. She's apparently nearly 6 months pg. Random.
Gosh emz, your MW doesn't really sound that great at all. Will you stop seeing her soon when you go on to specialist care?

Emz, I would definately be looking into a new MW. Its worth seeing as some others that yiu tried may have lost patients by now for numerous reasons.
I am having a work baby shower either the 10 or 11th (?)of Nov but not doing a friends one, not really my thing. I think I will do a "meet the baby" at about 6 weeks instead for friends and family.
Work one is only happening as its became a bit fo a tradition and is more about getting all the ladies together for a catch up.

Hello!!!
I have finally got on here as I have been busy doing assignments. 2 to go! yay!
Thanks for reassuring me Bellababysmum about the happy hormones and being in the hospital alone. I think my DP would still like to be there anyway. He is one of those people that can have a good sleep anywhere. Im jealous
I think my friends will throw me a baby shower but I am sure they will want to keep it as a surprise (they did that for another friend). I hope it will be after uni otherwise I will find it hard to relax. When we all have our baby showers we will have to post lists and photos of all the nice things we get!
Emz, sorry to hear about your MW. It is pretty slack but she may be great for the labour. My MW is quite "painful" to talk to as she goes off on a tangent all the time. It really annoys me as I am one of those "straight to the point" people. However, I am sure her very calm and relaxed attitude will be great for the highly strung labouring woman that I will be. Afterall, that is the most important part. Also, there will be a hospital MW present so it is not as if you will be left in the lurch to deliver the baby by yourself
As for the dog biscuit craving- ewwwww! I dont crave weird stuff yet, I just crave things that I havnt tasted in a while. Oh and a bit of advice, dont visit the recipe section and make the marshmallow. It is yummo and eating lots make you feel a bit ill. I know from experience
ETA: We are almost finished our AN classes Sally. There wasnt much I didnt know but was great for DP and also confirming I have sufficient knowledege to know what to do with a newborn! Have fun at your classes ladies

Ew dog biscuits! That is seriously disgusting, and why would you tell anyone?!
I'm hoping my m/w will become redundant when I start seeing the specialist. The actual baby stuff she does is fine, but every time I go in there she has no idea who I am and it's like I have to tell her my whole life story again. Nevermind, I only have to see her for another 4ish months!

It sounds like you have a fairly positive attitude towards your MW emz & I'm sure the next 4 months will go fast...
Has anyone else found that their patience levels are at an all time low since being pregnant? Today at work the photocopier was playing up & I had a deadline & the damn thing kept jamming. I wanted to cry, scream & kick it all at once but I didn't. I'm going for a swim later, I desperately need some chillout time I think.
I hope evryone else is having a good day

Well, its been very quiet in here!!
1st day back at work after the holidays and so far so good, have even maganged to keep my patience.
I didn't achieve my goals of finishing the bub's room or packing my bags...although did write a list and start packing but realised that there is lots that you can't put in until the last minute so figure that as soon as I have a contraction I will finish my packing.
Hows it all going with the rest of you?

Yeah it has been very quiet in here lately. Glad to hear your first day back is off to a good start.
I got a few baby things done on the weekend. I went to the Snazzipants shop & bought a couple more covers & now I have the nappies sorted for the first few wks (all going to plan of course ). ON Sat night I went to my first baby shower which was fun. And yesterday I sanded and repainted a small set of drawers for baby's room. DH spent most of the day finishing off his bathroom renovations which means he can cross that off his list of "things to do before baby arrives" (but I've actually given him a Dec 1 deadline!). Good to see he's slowly starting to realise that there's not that much time left...
