The other TTC board I frequent has had a fair few number of girls confirm that OPK's can be used as HPT's. Basically the deal is that luteinizing (sp?) hormone is very similar to hcg. I believe it has 2 of the 3 components that hcg has if I recall correctly. So when you are pregnant an OPK will show up positive as those two components are present. However getting a positive OPK doesn't guarantee you are pregnant. You cannot use a pregnancy test as an OPK because the pregnancy test looks for all three components.

They will show a positive result if you are pregnant, but you can not confirm you are pregnant by that as could be ovulation.
