I found it hard because when your pregnant your not suppose to have diet food (with that fake sugar stuff) yet they tell you to have that when you have GD so i just avoided sugary things when possible. wholemeal foods, rice, bread etc... plus limit fruit cos thats high in sugar. it is hard knowing what to eat, i lost weight because I was so careful about what i was eating but didnt really help cos i ended up on insulin anyway!

Normally its controlled with diet but if your levels are still to high then you may need insulin.
Chch womens diabetes nurses and everyone are really nice. You basically see them aswell as your midwife so you can end up seeing heaps of people. I had either appointments or scans every week which was a mission

Only takes a minute but it can take a while to get used to doing it cos you know its gonna hurt!
With addison I couldnt control it with diet so had to go on insulin which wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.
She was induced 2 weeks early because of her size which is a common problem with GD, big babies. Kobe was 7lb 4oz (I think) and he was 6 weeks prem.
I used ot have to go to the hospital clinic every couple of weeks, had size scans every two weeks from about 30 weeks.

Edited by my2angels

What are you able to eat? Did you get another scan later on to check size of bubs? Do they induce you a bit early if they think they are getting too big? Have you had any other issues?

Anything much appreciated. Ta

i got this with Rhyley. to answer your questions:

You can eat anything with out sugar but also be careful with white bread - potatoes - chippies - etc... as they break down and turn into glucose. When/if you are diagnosed with GD you will be referred to a Diabetes educator and also a dietian to le tyou know what you can and can't eat or drink, remember orange juice has heaps of sugar in it.

I got a growth scan at 35 weeks - Rhyley was 7lb then. since I have big babies anyhow they were just going to leave me to go into labour myself. but it was picked up Rhyley was breeched and since his size and position of my placenta turning did not work. So he was born 1 week early by ceasar.

I did not have any issues as long as I was good with what I ate. It was dishertening when you thought you were being good and your levels were still high.

Don't beleive all you read on the net about it - like all GD babies are born by ceasar, they have higher level of still births, they have to go to Nccu after they are born to be monitored - although I am sure these happen its not the norm. Once I had Rhyley they checked his sugar levels every 4 hours in the first 24 hours but since he was feeding fine they didn't test again till i left the home.

If you got anymore questions - ask away
