I have used my baby bath once, we dont have the built in one its just a normal baby bath. I bath Caden in the kitchen sink with a cloth nappy on the bottom so its soft on his bum, He loves it and its way easier on my back and such due to having a c section.

I used the kitchen sink, right height and easy to both fill and empty. I used a basic baby bath for a while but it was a mission to full/empty. Oooh thanks for the heads-up on drawers from Bunnings, Dana - we're going looking at drawers today for baby and new ones for Ella (timing!!).

About the bathing, we have my old baby bath (no plug, no nothing) and must have only used it 3 times with Ella, just in the kitchen. It turned out we found it much easier for her to have a shower with DH every evening (if you get them used to it when they're little, they love their showers!), and as I felt too clumsy bathing her in the big bath when she was little, when I had to bath her I ended up hopping in with her a lot of the time. Hi Dana,

I bought a change table/bath on the recommendation of my SIL. (Until she told me how fantastic she's found hers to be for both her girls, I wasn't even going to bother.) It's one like you described, with a draining pipe and a flip up lid that has the change mat on it. If you're looking for a good price, try trademe. I bought a brand new one that looks really cute for $110. I was stoked, as all the ones in the shops are at least $199. Danaj, i had just a normal baby bath for DS but found it too much hassle to move from kitchen tot able when full. We ended up putting him in the bath with DH from bout a month old.

This time i insisted i get the combo unit. I got it for $30 off trademe. Might have been $50? But stil WAY cheaper than brand new. I use the change table quite often. This one is heaps taller than my other one so not using it as often for ds now. but was using old one. hope that makes sense. DS is now 22mth. Just easier on the floor. lol.

I like the idea of the combo unit as you can move it to where you want & it's easier to fill & empty. means we can bath baby in a warm room, & change him too. We used a baby bath on the island kitchen bench too. It was great as it saved my back and my sore knees after birth and we just emptied it in the kitchen sink. The only problem we had was that the baby bath had a molded seat in it and we couldnt get our baby far enough into the water to be comfortable because of its shape. We ended up using a fish bin after a month or two. We also used the baby bath on the kitchen bench. I had a c/s too but if DH was at work and I bathed Spencer then I would just leave the baby bath full of water for DH to empty when he got home and I would fill it with jugs of water so I never had to carry it with it full of water.

We've tended to use the babies bath on the kitchen bench, fill it using a bucket and then pop the plug out and drain it straight into the sink. We don't have a big bath at our place so it's either that or a shower. Didnt have a change table for Blake or Paige but will be for this baby as my back is hurting already.......
We only used baby bath for about a month with Blake then he went straight in shower with one of us..Paige was the same.....

I had a normal baby bath with Maya and decided with #2 I HAD to have a bath/change table combo. I think we used the bath in the change table twice, the rest of the time I used it on the kitchen bench which was a better height for me and made draining it etc. easier. We used an old wooden trolley from my parents (they used it when I was a baby) and got a cheap baby bath and put it on top (DH was in charge of filling it and lifting it). Never used a change table as such, always changed Ella on a mat on the floor and never had any problems.

I couldn't justify the expense, bought a bath with plug and pipe for $30. But if you can afford it, I say go for it. I basically didn't want one because I wanted a change table I could fold away if we needed to.

After a csection I had just a plain bath and it ment I couldnt do any of the bething by myself because I had to carry it from the laundry to fill and empty it which was impossible. Where are you based Dana? There are cheeper cubboards in blues etc at a place I know in Akl...let me know if you need the address. And I found them better than Bunnings at half the price!!

Oh yah and the copuboard with out any pain is $69 dollars there!

Brilliant. Thanks Ladies. They're not cheap so I wanted to make sure but it sounds like it's worth it.

If anyone is looking at cots, I got a really solid white cot (nice simple design) from the warehouse for $299.00. It's chunkier than the cheap ones from Farmers.

Went looking for basinettes but it turns out mum kept mine. It's solid rosewood with all the nets and stuff. way cool.

AND, the white cupboards and storage units etc (nice ones) are less than $200.00 at Bunnings. Way cheaper than any of the shops. And they're modular so you can choose heaps of shapes and sizes. I had one with DD just like Kiwibub...and it was a life saver. I also had a CS and the fact that you could move it around and then pull a plug and water just drains it self was amazing. And Like Kiwibub I alsi used it until DD was 18-20month. She grew out of the bath at first but we had a spare bath (bigger) and it fit in there too!!

Buy one...you wont regret it!

I used a normal bath without the stand or plug or anything and hated it ... it was good to put on the table but then having to lift it to empty it in the bath or sink was a mission.

I would highly recommend buying one that at the very least had a plug and pipe to easily empty the water afterwards. If you get one that is on a stand with wheels - I think that would be a fantastic idea.

I had one when my son was born and we used it to constantly and good backsaver as I had a c-section and couldn't bend over. What I like about it as we could wheel it to which room we wanted it in. He was 4 week early so he used the bath for quite some time and I still change him on the table to he was about 18 months or so.One thing we did as we didn't have a swimming pool when he was mobile we used to fill it up with water and he will spend ages playing in it.

We are expecting #2 and we have brought another one

Hi Ladies,

I'm looking at starting to shop in the next few weeks and wanted some advice.

I've seen the change tables that lift up and have a bath with a hose all on castors. Are these useful or just a gimick? We don't really have bathroom space for the bath on the floor and have two German Shepherds (one of whom is addicted to water) so water near that ground is asking for trouble.

In your opinions, which is the best bathing option to buy? Bath by itself or an all in one unit?
