so we've finally got mikey pretty much sleeping through the night (yessss!!) but now the problem is going to sleep. he's in his sleeping bag but when we leave him he sits up and crawls around in bed and won't go to sleep. i've tried pinning the sleeping bag to the sheet but it keeps coming undone and i really don't want to prick him.
so...how to stop him sitting up??

If he isn't getting upset and just playing around I would just leave him, he will eventually drop off to sleep and just keep a blanket handy that you can thow over him when you go in to check on him later. He will get used to going off by himself.

You might just have to pop him down, let him play or whatever, and tuck him back in when he's reached the "really tired" stage. Sooner or later he'll have to learn to go to sleep by himself anyway but I do realise that wasn't much help - sorry!

Im not sure Id be much help as my baby is only 4 and a half months old, but what about one of them saftey sleeps? Or can babies still sit up somehow with them too? I have the problem of my lil man kicking his blankets off everytime I put him to bed, its really annoying but I just have to go in there once hes asleep and pull them back up, but if hes in a sleeping bag he cant do that. Anyway im off the subject now.. I hope you figure something out! Goodluck!

We do a combo of the safety sleep and a sleeping bag, don't know if that would work for you Ella, but could be worth a shot !

it could be worth a shot jax, in the safety sleep can they still roll from side to side? mikey loves to sleep on his side and the only way we can stop him sitting up is to pin the sleeping bag up by his shoulders which he HATES because he can't roll from side to side.

Hi ella! We just leave Joey to his own devices... he is in his sleeping bag and I know he is safe because even standing he can't get out of his cot. He goes to sleep eventually usually in a crazy position but we go in when he is asleep and just lie him the right way....

jack was like that to ella. i never bothered making his bed as he never stayed under the blankets. we left him to muck around and 'play' in his cot and snuck in when he was asleep to cover him up

Everyone else has said it, but honestly hte best thing at that age is jdut to leave him to it if he is happy to play for a while we still have to do that to Alan he will just drop off eventually when he is tired. I can't imagine he would take too well to the safty sleep now he is older.

Briona was pulling herself to standing at 6mos  and couldn't always get back down so we just used to go in when she cried and tuck her back in...

You can put him in the safety sleep sideways, Erin has tried to roll with it on but doesn't get very far.
Ultimately it's the best solution is whatever suits you both, and keeps you both happy !

We have the same problem with Alex who is 12 months. In the end we got him a sleeping bag and left him to get himself to sleep. Alex always stands and thinks its a great game so best to leave him to it

linda, i think that's what mikey's starting to think it is too, a game. every time i go in there to lie him back down he stands up again. i guess i'll just have to leave him to it.

Hey that's awesome news that Mikey is now sleeping through. I bet you don't know yourself!! I've been told by a lot of my friends just leave them to it, its their bedtime and they will fall asleep when they are ready and tired enough.

yea the sleeping through is so good!!! we only really had one bad night when i stopped feeding him and then it was all smooth sailing. such a relief, now he only wakes up once if at all.
